My Black Poison just dropped their new single “Artificial Love”. This one hits pretty hard right away. No slow build, no teasing it out, it just comes in loud and full, like it already knows what it wants to say.
There’s a strong punk backbone here, but it’s not all noise for the sake of it. The acoustic guitar actually stands out more than expected, giving the track a different kind of weight, and then those little harmonica moments sneak in and break things up in a really nice way. It keeps the song from feeling one-note, even though it stays intense pretty much the whole time.
The vocals are solid. Not overdone. They’re just raw in the right places. The melodies stick too, which honestly surprised us a bit because the overall sound leans pretty heavy and dark. Still, there’s something in there that lingers after it ends.
The lyrics go a bit deeper than your average punk track. It circles around that idea of filling a gap with something temporary, in this case alcohol, and you can feel that tension throughout. It’s not spelled out in a cheesy way either, it leaves room to read into it however you want.
The band knows what they’re doing at this point. Everything sounds tight, clean, but still emotional enough to not feel sterile. We’re definitely keeping an eye on My Black Poison this year. There’s something here that feels like it could grow into something bigger if they keep pushing this direction.
