Tom Morfitt-White has landed on our radar with his debut EP, “Love Me Now” and it’s been a very good introduction. With 4 tracks, he gives his voice so much room, and that’s a big part of why this release works. There’s a richness to his singing, but he never pushes too hard. His delivery is confident and easy to listen to, even when the songs turn towards more difficult subjects.
The acoustic guitars deserve a mention here. They sit nicely beside his vocals while the production and mixing keep everything clear and warm, especially on headphones. The melodies are strong and there are little moments where the voice and guitar work together so naturally that it’s worth going back for another listen.
The EP brings together the earlier singles “Love Me Now” and “Home” with two new songs, “Blood Is the Knight” and “Fall”. The subjects take different paths. “Blood Is the Knight” looks at self-harm from the point of view of someone watching another person struggle, while “Fall” deals with the changes and strain that can come with a relationship. That gives the release a bit of range without making the four songs sound disconnected.
Tom is still a young artist, but the writing is honest and shows real skills. There is no need for him to overdo the performance, the songs already give his voice and melodies enough space to do their work. And that’s what stayed with us most after listening.
We really enjoyed spending time with “Love Me Now”. The singing is the main draw, but the songwriting and careful acoustic backing keep us coming back as well. Tom is one to watch, and we’d be glad to write about whatever he releases next.
