Stained Glass – The Abbey

Stained Glass are back with “The Abbey” a new single that gets straight to the point. This is loud rock with great raw energy, but there is also a lot of work behind the sound. The South Yorkshire two-piece bring guitars, drums and vocals together in a way that sounds rough around the edges, but still has a lot of control behind it.

The guitars are probably our favourite part. They are loud without taking over the whole song, and the drums give everything a strong push from start to finish. The vocals are strong too, with melodies that stay clear even when the music gets heavier. There is a good balance between the noise and melodies which is not always easy to get right.

The track is solid and has a serious theme. It looks at domestic abuse and the way people can stay in denial when the person hurting them is also someone they love. It is not an easy topic, but the band delivered the message in a perfect way.

We also liked the production. The band recorded and produced the track themselves, and you can hear the care that went into the mix. This is a strong introduction to Stained Glass. We enjoyed the energy, the melodies and the playing, but mostly we liked that the track has its own character. It is polished, but it still sounds like a band having a good time making loud music. That is probably the best part of it when you turn it up. There is so much here to come back to.

ABOUT THE DUO:

Stained Glass are a South Yorkshire two-piece blending industrial electronics, crushing guitars and distorted pop melodies into a live show built around chaos, rhythm and atmosphere.

Taking influence from the industrial aggression of Nine Inch Nails and The Prodigy alongside the textures of shoegaze and alternative rock, the band create a cinematic sound somewhere between a warehouse rave and collapsing societies.

The band records and produces all their own material at their studio in Barnsley, fully embracing the DIY ethos and providing these services to other artists in the area.
