Sleeps Under Beams – If A Kiss Could Speak

Sleeps Under Beams are back with a new single, “If A Kiss Could Speak” and this one is a strong listen from start to finish. Lisa, Anna and Drew have put together a song that gives the lyrics so much space while still keeping the music full and interesting.

The story behind the song adds another layer. Lisa writes from the point of view of a kiss that carries the memory of a relationship that never became what it promised to be. That is a simple idea, but it gives the song a different angle from the usual lost-love track. The kiss almost becomes its unique character, carrying the words and finally letting go.

The music is polished and this is where the band really works. The melodies are one of the best parts and the guitars are just amazing. There is a dark edge in the atmosphere, but the track never gets buried under it. The instrumentation is rich, the production is excellent, and the mix gives everything enough room to stand out.

Anna’s vocal sound fits the song very well, especially alongside the detailed vocal design. There are some great small touches in the arrangement, so another listen gives something new to notice.

It also shows how the band can keep a personal story direct and musical. For us, this is one of those singles that is easy to play again. We really enjoyed the melodies, the vocals and the amount of care in the production. Sleeps Under Beams have made a dark but easy-to-listen song here and we are already curious about what the upcoming album “Glossed Souls” will bring next.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

It was in the Autumn of 2020 when Drew Campbell (of The Netherlands) and Lisa A Swain (of NC in the USA) met on a collaboration website for composers, lyricists, etc.  Lisa heard samples of Drew’s awe inspiring instrumentals and knew after hearing his song, “Brothers Grimm”, that he was the person/composer that she had always dreamed of working with one day. On a whim she decided to contact him and tell him how much she enjoyed listening to his music and much to her surprise he sent her a reply asking her to collaborate after he’d read her lyrics for “Will-O’-Wisp”.  (It can be heard under our “earlier tracks” under MUSIC in drop down)

It was an instant connection between the two who not only shared some of the same influences, they shared the same dream…To create something beautiful together, each drawing from their own personal experiences, from both the positive and the negative. They wanted to be authentic, real and raw. Life isn’t always pretty, but if you’re lucky, you can still find the beauty in it and that’s what they do.  They mix the dark with the light, vulnerability with inner strength, not only in their instrumentation, but in the lyrics themselves.  And now with the haunting vocals of their ethereal songstress, Anna Rea, Sleeps Under Beams has found its  perfect balance.

So what is in the future for SUBs (Sleeps Under Beams)? A new album in the making, “Glossed Souls” to be released in 2025!
