Matt DeAngelis is back with a new single called “Playing God”, and this is a welcome return. This artist is already one of the best 10 names we’ve covered on this blog. His rich voice, strong melodies and deep writing make his music stand out.
The song has great energy and the hook is easy to remember. The melodies are strong and stay with you after the song ends. The vocal production is smart and the sound design is polished with really good variety. We liked the little changes that pop up as the song moves forward. They give the arrangement more character without making it hard to follow. The production is rich and sounds professional which matters when the lyrics have something to say.
The subject is more serious than the catchy sound might first suggest. The song looks at our need to control everything, including things that are never really ours to control. It applies to leaders in powerful positions, but also to everyday life. Most of us have tried to force an outcome or act as if we know best. The song points towards faith and trust, reminding us we cannot run the world just because we want to. It’s a clear message and one many listeners will understand.
What works here is that the message is strong and deep without making the song difficult to listen to. The lyrics are honest and the instrumentation is full of great moments and gives them room while still keeping a strong pace. The tune is easy to enjoy and Matt’s delivery deserves another listen.
We enjoy his songwriting and voice and this gives us more reason to follow his work. He is talented and has one of the best voices we’ve ever heard. We are glad he’s back with another one worth keeping on repeat.

I’m Matt DeAngelis, a singer/songwriter from Southern New Jersey, USA. I have been honing my craft as a songwriter since age 8 with the ultimate goal of spreading a positive outlook in a world that can be riddled with strife and negativity. Having been diagnosed with an OCD/anxiety disorder from my youth, I have internalized the time sensitive world around me and have learned through my strong faith to take a negative and turn it into a positive, which has been a guiding force in my development as a songwriter. My advocacy for climate change and mental health have been a passion since my youth and I have loved weather for as long as I can remember.
