Mary Mendiaz – anxious

Mary Mendiaz just released her debut single “anxious” and it already feels like she’s been doing this for a while. It doesn’t sound rushed or unsure. It’s real and that’s what stands out first.

The song leans into a soft acoustic sound with a clean guitar that stays simple the whole way through. The production gives her voice space, and honestly, that’s the best choice they could’ve made because her voice carries a lot of emotion on its own. It’s gentle, but you can feel the weight behind it.

The lyrics are honest and meaningful. They hit a very specific feeling. It’s about being in a one-sided relationship where you give too much and slowly realize no one’s really giving back. The way she writes it is direct but still emotional, not too complicated, just honest thoughts put into melody. Lines about feeling unseen and always putting someone else first feel very relatable, especially for people who tend to overgive.

What we like is how natural everything feels. It doesn’t try too hard to be dramatic or overly deep. It just sits in that quiet realization moment, and that makes it hit more.

For a first release, this is kind of impressive. There’s already a clear sound and identity here, and it feels like she knows what she wants to say. We’re really curious to see what she does next because this is a strong start.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Hey, I’m Mary! I’m a Toronto-based artist writing songs to make sense of emotions that don’t always have an easy place to land.

I started writing when loneliness and exhaustion felt too heavy. Over time, songwriting became my way of releasing the pain I’d always hide, of always being “the strong one.”

Now, I write for anyone who’s been called “too sensitive,” for anyone who’s felt guilty for finally choosing themselves. For the ones who feel deeply and are just trying to heal, to be seen, to be understood.

You’re not too much. You were just in the wrong room.
