Kelly Ferebee’s new release “Time, Life, Beauty” is a beautiful 14 track album for anyone who wants something gentle to put on and enjoy without needing to give it all their attention. That doesn’t mean it is background music, though. There is so much here to come back to, especially in the melodies and the way Kelly uses her pure and charming voice.
The songs take their time, with nature, love, peace and gratitude running through the record. Tracks such as “Red in Autumn”, “Golden Slumbers” and “Mother Earth” point towards the album’s interest in the world around us. Our favourite title is “Love Is the Only Answer”, it’s a simple and catchy song that makes the message honest and clear. The songs are short, but the collection still has room to breathe. It is more about noticing small things than making big statements. It does not chase a big dramatic moment or try to turn every song into a statement, it keeps things warm, open and easy to return to.
Kelly’s voice is the main reason to stay with the album. She has a charming sound and a strong vocal range, moving through the songs with ease. The instrumentation is simple and gives her so much space, which works well here. The melodies are lovely, the lyrics are easy to take in and the production and mixing are clean.
There is something nice about an album that asks us to slow down a little and notice what is already around us. We loved spending time with this one, from Kelly’s vocals to the gentle arrangements, and it is easy to imagine returning to it on a quiet afternoon. Kelly Ferebee is definitely an artist worth following!
