ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Hailing from all across the globe but born in Denmark, culturally enriched Jakob The Liar, aka Jakob Kupferberg, is a multifaceted singer songwriter and musician currently taking the alt pop scene to a whole new level. He embarked on this creative journey at a young age, strumming on a battered acoustic guitar, using music as a coping mechanism while constantly moving between countries and changing schools. His modest dreams of becoming a rock star took a profound turn when a severe mental health crisis, triggered by an adverse reaction to skincare medication, forced him to reevaluate his life and the music he was destined to create. As his mental health gradually improved – guided by a voice urging him to tell his story, Jakob’s music started taking shape. Emerging from a decade of darkness, battling demons and surviving near-death experiences, Jakob was finally ready to face the world again. He released two EPs under his civil name, Jakob Kupferberg, titled ‘Crystallised in Moonshine‘ and ‘Sweet Surrender,’ receiving praise in the independent press. During his search for a unique stage name, Jakob stumbled upon a Holocaust memorial website and discovered a man with the same name, Jakob Kupferberg, who had perished in the Terezin concentration camp during WWII. Embracing his Jewish heritage and in search of a lasting stage name, Jakob rebranded himself as Jakob The Liar, inspired by a character from a film starring Robin Williams. Jakob The Liar’s musical style blends all of his influences, embodying the radical, righteous rage of Zach de la Rocha, the melody-driven vulnerability of Jeff Buckley, the boundless artistic pursuits of Thom Yorke, the ever-evolving poetry of Ani DiFranco, the quirky romantic optimism of Regina Spektor, the riot-starting riffs of Tom Morello, the open chord soundscapes of Chris Martin, the defiant resilience of Dave Grohl, the mystic, flamboyant coolness of Lenny Kravitz, and the transcendent soul of Chris Cornell. Jakob The Liar’s music documents a life that has been both unpredictable and uncompromising; this emerging songster is certainly one to keep an eye out for.
