Interview With Solomon Sunn

Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?

A: It feels as if every experience has shaped me to become a better artist in many ways. As a kid, I was always listening to music one way or another. I started writing songs and teaching myself guitar as early as ten years old. Throughout my school years I continued to learn many other instruments coupled with better music theory knowledge. One thing that holds true to this day: how much I value the freedom in creating, My experiences, my childhood and never-ending education gave me the tools to do so and ultimately shape my sound.

Q: How are you planning on growing your fan base and sharing your music with the world? What message do you have for anyone who is about to discover “Solomon Sunn”?

A: Posting social media content, as well as dropping new music consistently has been one of my personal goals in order to grow my fanbase and so I have more to share to the world. The digital world has made it easy for artists to find supporters and opportunities alike from all over the world, but my favorite way of connecting with fans and sharing my music is through live events. Getting to know those that gave the time to be there, hearing how they connected with a track and pouring my soul out as sing is a very special feeling I can only begin to describe. I really believe in the power to connect through energy, alone.

Q: Who is the most inspiring artist for you right now? And where do you find inspiration for making music?

A: That’s a difficult question for me because I’m inspired by many different artists for different reasons. When I listen to music, for better or for worse I always listen with an analytic ear, dissecting down to see which parts are especially drawing me in and taking notes for my own future creations. If I had to name a specific artist, I would have to say 6LACK. As a fellow R&B artist, I am truly inspired by his unique, revolutionary sound, along with his messages of love and healing

Q: Can you tell us about the story or message behind the song, “Fleeting Feelings.”?

A: This song came about after getting over a crush alarmingly fast. I began reflecting how most feelings, good and bad, are simply fleeting- floating by- only lingering when we choose to hold on to them. Next thing I know, the lyrics just flowed into my mind.

Q: How would you describe your sound in one word for potential listeners?

A: Emotional

Q: Did you face any challenges while writing or recording “Fleeting Feelings”?

A: I was fortunate in this creation where the lyrics and the beat just flowed out of me with ease. Even collaborating with the other artist went smoothly! Of course there were creative differences here and there, but they were easily resolved because it feels like we both could see the vision in the end.

Q: What is the message of your music? And what are your goals as an artist?

A: The message of my music is empathy. I want nothing more than to use my music to connect with others so that we both feel understood. I want to provide that special feeling that I get listening to a good song or artist for someone else. My goal as an artist is to show how powerful love can be. The love I speak of through my lyrics, the love in the experiences that inspire these lyrics, the love I have for making music- my goal is to radiate these feelings into the world in hopes that be received by others, and with high hopes, grow to greater magnitudes.

Q: Who is your dream artist to collaborate with? (dead or alive)

A: I would have to say Mac MIller. He had endless talent and vision when it came to music. It would just be the ultimate inspiration loop to see what ideas this man could birth firsthand.

Q: What is your advice for people interested in pursuing music as a career or for those trying to enter the industry?

A: If you’re doing it to be like someone else or to have the life of someone else, I wouldn’t recommend it. You could have the best voice and a fiery passion, but unless you have the resolve to stay true to your music, your career and yourself, believing firmly but delusionally that you’ll be successful, you might find it hard to keep going. Whatever your reason, just don’t give up and KEEP GROWING!

Q: If you could go back in time and give a younger you some words of wisdom, what would they be?

A: I would tell him how beautiful life truly is. And maybe encourage them to create better habits, as this influences the person you become.
