Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?
A: I’ve been around music my whole life. Growing up, I was always singing—especially in the car with my mom, which is really where my love for it started. I was in choir all through school and got into musical theater early, which helped me become more expressive and comfortable performing. I even used to memorize songs like Headlines by Drake as a kid just because I connected with the sound. Those early experiences made music feel like more than just something I listen to—it became my way to express myself and tell stories. That’s still what drives me today.
Q: How are you planning on growing your fan base and sharing your music with the world? What message do you have for anyone who is about to discover “Maurice Brown Jr.”?
A: I’m focused on growing my fanbase by being consistent and intentional with my content. I use platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube to push short-form content and connect with people daily, while also running ads through Google Ads to reach new audiences. For me, it’s about creating a funnel—grabbing attention with content, then turning that into real listeners and supporters. For anyone just discovering Maurice Brown Jr., I’d say you’re getting someone real. I put genuine emotion and energy into my music, and I’m not afraid to be myself—goofy, expressive, all of it. My goal is for people to feel something when they hear my music and see a piece of themselves in it.
Q: Who is the most inspiring artist for you right now? And where do you find inspiration for making music?
A: Right now, one of the most inspiring artists for me is Nino Paid. I respect how real and open he is, he talks about actual life situations, and it makes his music easy to connect with. That kind of honesty is something I try to bring into my own music. As far as inspiration, it really comes from real life…my experiences, emotions, and the things I see people around me going through. I also pull from memories, like growing up around music and moments that stuck with me. For me, music is therapeutic, so I create based on what I’m feeling in the moment and turn that into something people can relate to.
Q: Can you tell us about the story or message behind the song, “Moment.”?
A: “Moment” is really about being present and recognizing where you are in life while you’re in it. A lot of times we get caught up chasing the next thing, but that song is about slowing down and realizing this is the moment you’ve been working toward. It also comes from a personal place just reflecting on my journey, the growth, and everything it took to get here. I wanted it to feel real and motivating, like something people can play when they’re grinding but also when they need to remind themselves they’re already living part of their dream. Overall, the message is about appreciating your path, staying locked in, and not letting your moment pass you by.
Q: How would you describe your sound in one word for potential listeners?
A: Authentic…(Everything I make comes from a real place—real emotions, real experiences—so when people hear my music, they’re getting me as I am.)
Q: Did you face any challenges while writing or recording “Moment”?
A: Yeah, honestly the biggest challenge was trusting the new sound. “Moment” was one of the first songs where I stepped into my indie alt direction, so it felt different from what I was used to. While I was creating it, I knew it sounded good, but there was that moment of questioning like, “Is this really me?” Once I finished it though, everything clicked. It stopped feeling like a risk and started feeling like the most natural version of my sound. So the challenge wasn’t really the writing—it was trusting the direction I was going in.
Q: What is the message of your music? And what are your goals as an artist?
A: The message of my music is really about being real, staying positive, and giving people something they can relate to. Something my older cousin used to say to me was “gotta stay positive in this negative world” and that stuck with me. I talk about real-life situations, emotions, and growth, because I want people to feel understood when they hear my music. To me, music is therapeutic, so I try to create songs that can help someone get through something or just feel a little better. As an artist, my goal is to keep growing—both creatively and as a brand. I want to reach more people around the world, build a strong, genuine fanbase, and stay true to my sound while evolving. At the end of the day, I just want to make an impact and be one of those artists people can really connect with.
Q: Who is your dream artist to collaborate with? (dead or alive)
A: Juice Wrld/AJR/Nino Paid.
Q: What is your advice for people interested in pursuing music as a career or for those trying to enter the industry?
A: My biggest advice is to stay consistent and be yourself. Don’t wait for everything to be perfect—just start creating and putting your music out there. The more you do it, the better you’ll get and the more people will start to notice. Also, learn the business side. Platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube are huge for getting exposure, and tools like Google Ads can help you reach new audiences if you use them right. Most importantly, don’t compare your journey to anyone else’s. Everybody moves at their own pace. Stay locked in, keep improving your sound, and make music that’s real to you—because that’s what people actually connect with.
Q: If you could go back in time and give a younger you some words of wisdom, what would they be?
A: I’d tell my younger self to trust the process and not overthink everything. Go harder dude! Just keep creating and don’t be afraid to put yourself out there earlier. I’d also say stop worrying about what people think—what makes you different is actually your strength. And most importantly, stay consistent. Even on the days you don’t feel inspired, keep going, because all those small moments add up. Everything I was working toward back then is starting to come together now, so I’d just remind myself to stay patient and keep believing in it.
