Interview With Fountain Island

Q: Welcome back, Fountain Island! It’s fantastic to have you with us again. Since our last conversation, a lot has happened in your musical journey. To kick things off, could you share some highlights or pivotal moments that have shaped your artistic path since our last interview?

A: Hey! Great to be back and thanks! A lot has happened, since our last chat we have had some great shows and great opportunities. The biggest highlight has been opening for our heroes in The Summer Set at Gorilla in Manchester for a sold out crowd, it was quite the landmark event for us and we got some great new friends and fans from that one.

Q: Can you describe the musical style of Fountain Island in three words?

A: Upbeat, positive with a summer vibe.

Q: How do you stay connected with your fans, and what role do they play in shaping your musical journey?

A: Our best place to stay connected is through our instagram. We have a channel and a strong following where we can keep everyone updated. Tik Tok is a fantastic place to find our people but Instagram is how we stay up to date with everything we have going on.

Q: You have just released your new single, ‘Famous’. Is there a story behind it?

A:  It was born primarily out of frustration pf trying to get the simplest sentiment across and making a song that really explained a feeling easily. How do you express the feeling you have when you meet the perfect person? the best description I had for it was when you hear a great song that stays with you and constantly plays In your head and from there the concept and feeling became so obvious. And the words just came!

Q: What is your favorite part or verse from the song and why?

A: The line ‘Im your favourite record, just put the needle down I wanna be spun around and around’ Is so great and sums up the track perfectly. Wanting to be around them and be with them in the same way they are for you is what I wanted to express and I feel that really does it.

Q: Can you walk us through the creative process of producing the single, “Famous”?

A: Wanting a simple concept presented in a simple way that had a massive instant intentional feel was the goal. So it all started on an unplugged electric guitar that just built up and carried on throughout. To really focus on the simplicity I wanted to have as much of that guitar unplugged in the room sound so that carries all the way through in the song. It really represents that short, easy melody that just screams perfection and simplicity which sums up the feeling perfectly.

Q: What has been the most memorable concert or performance for Fountain Island so far?

A: Easily supporting The Summer Set. I had been a fan of them since they started all the way back in 2009 and they really shaped my music taste and a real full circle moment for the band. A simple idea in a bedroom has grown into opening for the band that inspired it all. Was a great moment!

Q: Reflecting on your body of work, each song holding its unique significance, could you share a particular track that stands out to you personally? What makes that specific tune special, and why does it hold a place of pride in your musical journey?

A: Girl You Got Me is for sure the song that has paved the way for where we are now and really getting to shine as the band I was hoping to be. It embodies the love of pop hooks with the tinge of warped era scene bands that I grew up on. I owe a lot to what that song has done for us.

Q: Exploring the diverse creative processes within the music industry is always fascinating. Could you provide insight into Fountain Island’s unique approach to crafting music? From the initial spark of an idea to the finished song, how do you navigate the creative journey and bring its musical concepts to life?

A: Its definitely a testament to the accessibility of music creation these days. A guitar and a laptop can really open up so music and you can really take an idea and essentially have a whole finished song all for having just a laptop and an idea. The ability to immediately get an idea down and sent to everyone and anyone allows for so much creativity. Without the pitfalls of needing a dedicated space or a studio on hand just speeds everything up and is such a valuable tool these days and really lets you as an artist have full range with little standing in your way. All that stops you is how big you can imagine and your ambition. Along as the spark is there and the motivation there’s no telling where you can end up. Skys the limit.

Q: As we wrap up our conversation, looking ahead, what aspirations or dreams do you have for Fountain Island, and what message would you like to share with your fans as they continue to accompany you on this musical journey?

A: So first and foremost I see this band as an opportunity for community. There’s so much happening in the world that is asking for a band that really wants to spread joy in the simple things and celebrate the little things. There’s some heavy things that are happening all over the world and sometimes it’s good to reflect on the positivity that can come from a simple melody that anyone can follow, share and enjoy.
