Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?
A: Well, I have been expose to a music background since I was a little kid, when my parents got me a flute recorder. When I was 8, I started taking piano lessons and shortly after I bought my first guitar. Since then, many punk rock bands, some albums recorded, many gigs and so on. Lo-fi music came into my life much later, during the pandemics. I guess that force staying at home brought back the willing to start recording and producing again.
Q: How are you planning on growing your fan base and sharing your music with the world? What message do you have for anyone who is about to discover “Blyme”?
A: I guess that social media and streaming platforms turned the music industry a little bit more democratic. Its much easier (and cheaper) to get heard these days. The good thing is that creativity still coming through, so I should keep on producing more tunes to get the wheel spinning, you know? With Blyme I try to deliver a bright and fresh approach on lofi music, always trying to explore new sounds and beats, sometimes blending styles, instruments, etc.
Q: Who is the most inspiring artist for you right now? And where do you find inspiration for making music?
A: As a guitarist I really enjoy listening to beats that make me chill with a nice melody line. Fnonose, W8less and Beamer are some of the top artists these days, at least to me. But have to say that I have been listening to some less know lofi artists that are doing an amazing job. Chet Moony, Lost Tribe, Monolux, The Lofi Airship just to name a few.
Q: Can you tell us about the story or message behind the song, “Sublyme.”?
A: The idea for Sublyme came up during a ski trip to Canada where I was at the top of a slope, admiring the view, and thought: “this is simply sublime!”. Then I just couldn’t stop thinking about getting my guitar and start composing a song that could transport me back to that moment. So I guess this is the message of Sublyme: feel good, chill, seat back and get ready for a trip to wherever you like!
Q: How would you describe your sound in one word for potential listeners?
A: Sublyme! That was an easy one, lol!
Q: Did you face any challenges while writing or recording “Sublyme”?
A: For sure! First of all, I was in a place where I simply couldn’t have my guitar right away. I actually live in Brazil, so I was miles away. The hardest part was trying to memorize the melody without a guitar near by to play with.
Q: What is the message of your music? And what are your goals as an artist?
A: The message that I try to share is keep it simple, try to face the world in mindfully way and believe in the healing power of music. If my music can change one’s mind for good, then my job is done.
Q: Who is your dream artist to collaborate with? (dead or alive)
A: I have always admired Greg Graffin, the lead singer of Bad Religion, which is a major influence for me on my music, regardless of the style. I guess that it would be be very hard to blend punk rock with lofi, but I would definitely give it a try! On the lofi genre, I would like very much to make a collab with fnonose.
Q: What is your advice for people interested in pursuing music as a career or for those trying to enter the industry?
A: Always have a back up plan, of course, but don’t feel discouraged if you don’t get streams at first or whatever. Once you start making music for yourself, then the rest comes up smoothly. That’s why having a backup plan may get you less anxious about the whole thing. Another thing is make connections. Build a solid network of friends and other producers on your genre. Listen and share their music also, they will eventually do the same for you!
Q: If you could go back in time and give a younger you some words of wisdom, what would they be?
A: That will sound strange, but I would say: ‘dude, don’t jump with your guitar while gigging, specially if you arre past forties. Your knee might hurt big time!’
