David Will Mitchell & Cole Toury just dropped “Our 100 Best Songs (Volume 1)”, and yes, it’s pretty much what the title says. This is the first part of a bigger plan. I think there will be ten volumes in total, each with ten tracks, all picked from their past work and given a fresh polish. So this one is like both a recap and a new start at the same time.
Right from the beginning, “Fallen Angels” stands out. It’s honestly our favourite here. The mix of male and female vocals works really well and the melody sticks fast. It has that warm emotional feel but still easy to listen to. You can tell they care about the sound, not just the lyrics.
The whole record leans into a mix of pop, country, and a bit of blues. The songs are simple in a good way, like they just flow. There’s also a lot going on in the background if you listen closely, with instruments like harmonica and sax adding extra layers. What we liked most is how consistent it feels. Even though these are older songs reworked, it doesn’t feel random. Everything fits together nicely, like they knew exactly what they wanted this first volume to sound like.
The writing style is positive and reflective. There’s a focus on life, values, and meaning, but it’s never heavy or preachy. It’s more like gentle reminders. So, overall, we really enjoyed this one. It’s easy to play from start to finish without skipping and that says a lot. If the next volumes keep this level, then yes, we’re definitely in for the rest.
