Conversation With Chris de Sarandy

Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?

A: Hiii! yes so I grew up in a small village called Bookham in Surrey where I spent most of my time making music and playing sports. At school I played alto saxophone in a jazz band and then started an indie band just like everyone else in their teens haha.  My parents would always have the radio on in the car and mum would have a lot of soul records on in the house, I guess the combination of all of these is where a lot of influence originated.

Q: How are you planning on growing your fan base and sharing your music with the world? What message do you have for anyone who is about to discover Chris de Sarandy?

A: Keep on releasing music regularly, play as many live shows as possible and build connections to my audience through social media and other forms. I hope they’re able to relate to my music and it would be beautiful if my music had meaning to them.

Q: Who is the most inspiring artist for you right now? And where do you find inspiration for making music?

A: A dear friend of mine ‘Rhodes’ who I was lucky enough to see whilst on tour recently in Berlin. It was an incredible show! I find a lot of inspiration comes from my surroundings, the people who I meet and spend time with through this crazy journey we call life.

Q: You just released your new single, “Like I Don’t Know You”. What inspired the writing and recording processes for this song?

A: ‘That’s Life’ is about accepting that life doesn’t always go the way you imagine it to. I’m a big believer in fait and in this case I had to accept that a relationship wasn’t all that it originally panned out to be. The writing and recording process was actually very intuitive for this song. I sat down and really poured out my feelings onto paper.

Q: How would you describe your sound in one word for potential listeners?

A: Emotive

Q: Is there a possible album being worked on? Any tea to spill on the release date or name?

A: My debut E.P ‘Know Your Worth’ is out at the end of April. I CAN’T WAIT!

Q: What is the message of your music? And what are your goals as an artist?

A: It differs a little from song to song but generally it’s about the dealings life throws at you as a young person growing up. My main goals as an artist is to never lose authenticity, inspire and have fun creating, meeting and exposing my music.

Q: Who is your dream artist to collaborate with? (dead or alive)

A: David Bowie. Especially now I’ve recently moved to Berlin and the relationship he had with the city!

Q: What is your advice for people interested in pursuing music as a career or for those trying to enter the industry?

A: Don’t stop believing in yourself, keep pushing and be as kind as possible to everyone and anyone you meet.

It’s a long run but you have to learn to be patient!

Q: If you could go back in time and give a younger you some words of wisdom, what would they be?

A: Daily journaling. I wish I had started when I was younger. I find it so useful to flick back and reflect on how I have been feeling and what I’ve been getting upto. I use it a lot as part of my writing process now.
