Brian Jin – Birth of Nations

Brian Jin just dropped his new single “Birth of Nations”, and this one honestly came out of nowhere for us. First listen and it sticks pretty quick. It’s built around a soft fingerpicked acoustic guitar and that actually helps the whole thing breathe in a nice way.

The songwriting is the real highlight here. There’s something very classic about it, almost old-school folk, but it doesn’t feel outdated. The melodies are smooth and kind of sneak into your head. His vocal delivery is calm, controlled and fits the mood perfectly. It’s just natural and easy.

The track leans into these big themes like creation, love, and human connection, but it still feels personal. It starts with this idea of a relationship, almost like a love letter, then slowly opens up into something wider, touching on faith, history, and even motherhood. It sounds deep, but it’s presented in a way that’s easy to take in, not heavy or confusing.

The production is simple but really well done and everything sits where it should. The mix is clean, the harmonies are nice and the instrumentation blends nicely with the vocals. Nothing is out of place and that’s harder to do than it sounds.

What we liked most is how effortless it feels. It doesn’t try to impress with big moments or tricks. It just leans on solid songwriting and lets the song speak. We’d say this is one of those tracks that grows on you the more you sit with it. Easy to replay, easy to enjoy.

ABOUT THE BAND:

Brian comes all the way from Fort Hood, Texas. He is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist whose evocative, genre-blending music captures the raw essence of human experience. Leading Brian Jin (when in band form: Casey Wollberg (vocals, guitar, percussion), and Nick Kladky (vocals, bass, keyboards)), Brian crafts a cinematic lo-fi sound that spans folk, Americana, blues, rock, and psychedelic indie. Hailing from O’Fallon, Missouri, his music reflects a deep connection to his roots, inspired by childhood memories of spinning his parents’ Gordon Lightfoot and Creedence Clearwater Revival records, with “Proud Mary” igniting his lifelong passion for music.

Brian’s career really began following the dissolution of pop/rock band, the Barnacles, with the 2009 experimental blues EP “Red Dirt Blues”, evolving through jam-band vibes in “Far to Roam” (2015) and a folk-EDM fusion in “We Should Talk” (2019). The COVID lockdown sparked a prolific streak, yielding the raw, narrative-driven “Birmingham New Street & Other Experiences” (2020), which exploded his audience, followed by the critically acclaimed and top streamer/bestseller, “The Frenchtown Connection” (2021) and the introspective “The Last Good High” (2021). His 2022 release, “You Are The Moon”, radiates jubilant energy, while “A Hush Falling Over the West” (2024) marks a shift toward a polished progressive rock style, with tracks like “Soma” and “Fine By Me” showcasing his poetic storytelling. This album would earn a nomination for the 2025 Josie Music Awards.

The latest album is “Secret Words”, which is a collection of b-sides, outtakes, and oddities. It plays like an album all to itself with all the points that make a Brian Jin album such an interesting listen. Let’s see where we go from here!…
