Interview With MALCANTHEARYOU

Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?

A: I am an Orlando based recording artist and performer. What sets me apart from others is I am Deaf. I rely on vibrations whether that be when I am writing, recording or performing. When I was young, despite the fact that I couldn’t hear, I was fascinated with music and I didn’t let my lack of hearing stop me. When I was 7, I started writing poetry and when I was 9 I started taking piano and vocal lessons. The poetry quickly started turning into song lyrics.

Q: How are you planning on growing your fan base and sharing your music with theworld? What message do you have for anyone who is about to discover “malcanthearyou“?

A: I plan on doing live shows, releasing music, sharing updates with my fans on social media and on my website www.malcanthearyou.com. I will keep advocating for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community and continue being a voice for those who feel unheard. The message I want my fans to know is you can achieve anything if you work hard and keep the faith no matter what obstacles are in your way.

Q: Who is the most inspiring artist for you right now? And where do you find inspiration for making music?

A: I love P!nk. Her story is inspiring, I absolutely love her music and her live shows. My inspiration for making music mainly comes from my personal life experiences that others may relate to in their own way and sometimes a random idea pops in my head and I just go with it.

Q: Can you tell us about the story or message behind the song, “Control.”?

A: Control is about taking your power back when haters are trying to bring you down. I can’t control others but I can control how I react to them and their sphere of influence over my life. I wrote this song about dealing with fake friends and my experiences being bullied.

Q: How would you describe your sound in one word for potential listeners?

A: Eclectic

Q: Did you face any challenges while writing or recording “Control”?

A: When creating Control, the challenge I had was the melodic rapping verse. When writing, I tried to employ a variety of poetic devices especially in the rhyme scheme. When recording, it was making sure my diction is clear as that is something I struggle with.

Q: What is the message of your music? And what are your goals as an artist?

A: I write music to be heard. My music is about empowerment, self awareness, and the ups and downs that make up our lives. My goal is release album after album, tour the world, and to inspire others.

Q: Who is your dream artist to collaborate with? (dead or alive)

A: P!nk.

Q: What is your advice for people interested in pursuing music as a career or for those trying to enter the industry?

A: Spend time getting to know yourself not just as an artist but as a human being. Don’t put yourself in box and don’t be afraid to try new things. Surround yourself with good people that love and support you and want to see you succeed. Last but not least…just do it.

Q: If you could go back in time and give a younger you some words of wisdom, what would they be?

A: Stand your ground, don’t let the obstacles discourage you from chasing your dreams and be proud of yourself.
