The new single from Yellow Couch Music, “Somewhere Along The Lines” is a perfect example of jazz and hip-hop done right and showcasing what happens when serious musical talent meets playful creativity. This track is a part of “Tidings In The Rough” the upcoming album by the collective created by drummer and producer Layton Weedeman. It is a groovy soulful piece that shows the best of teamwork.
The song began as a simple jam session, Weedeman was testing some Latin-inspired drum grooves. From there, he laid down a bassline and then invited his talented friends from all over the world to help him finish the track. Lars Haake on saxophone plays it calm and raw with a one-take performance and Eric Biondo on trumpet gives it a warm touch. Cuban artist Jessica Libertad adds a new life to the bassline, which adds more energy to the track.
What stands out most is how every element feels perfectly placed. The saxophone is very smooth, bass is groovy and the percussion is very crisp and all these elements are well layered. The accompanying animated video is another great touch, as it makes the overall experience much better.
We liked the fact that this track feels like a conversation between the musicians. Every instrument has its voice, but they all play in perfect harmony. It is not just a track, it is an experience. If you are into music that is both relaxing and full of character, then this one is for you.
