Yavenirie Amok – Obelisque Queen

Some bands like to smooth the edges. Yavenirie Amok don’t bother with that. There’s something refreshing about how “Obelisque Queen” doesn’t rush to explain itself. The band steps in with confidence and lets the track unfold on its own terms. No warm-up, no long intro. It’s there, solid, and very sure of what it wants to be.

This track feels like a statement more than a single. Not flashy, not chasing anything. It moves with intent. The band sounds locked in here, like they know exactly what they want to say and how loud they want to say it. The instrumentation is rich. Guitars, bass, and drums move together in a way that feels intentional, with small shifts that keep pulling your attention back in. Layers show up, disappear, then come back in a different shape. It keeps the song alive without overcrowding it.

The production is polished. There’s a haunting atmosphere running through the track that gives it character and depth. It’s not clean in a shiny way, but it sounds right for what the band are doing. The sound sticks. Even after it ends, parts of it hang around in your head.

Zuza’s voice is the secret here. Captivating. She doesn’t oversing or hide. She leads the song forward and gives it weight, and it’s hard to imagine this track working the same way without her presence. The melodies are strong and they linger.

This doesn’t feel like a band testing ideas. It feels like a band making a clear statement. We enjoyed spending time with this track, and our sense is that “Obelisque Queen” shows just how much confidence and care Yavenirie Amok bring into their music.

ABOUT THE BAND:

Yavenirie Amok is a four-piece force of nature formed in London in 2016 by vocalist, guitarist and songwriter Zuza Tehanu. The lineup is completed by Asia on whistles and backing vocals, Tom on bass, and Jan on drums — with Jan also shaping the band’s sound as their producer. Thanks to a shared pool of artistic skills, the band creates everything themselves: music videos, cover art, stage visuals and performance, the whole world of Yavenirie Amok.

All four members hail from Poland, but after a long time in the UK scene, they’ve carved out a space that’s entirely their own. Their music refuses to sit neatly in any genre box — it’s a collision of alternative, psychedelic and gothic rock, Eastern European folk, grunge grit, prog twists and impressive vocals with experimental, earth-rooted soundscapes. They’re here to jolt people out of their sleepwalk, to rattle the stiff cages of social norms, to lure you out of your comfort zone and into something strange, raw, and unforgettable. Adding improvisation, performance art and dance to their shows they make music which crawls under your skin and rearranges your soul.

Obelisque Queen is their third single release, following a tough year that tested and reshaped them. Their earlier singles, Fire and Black Book, lit the fuse — and they’re not done burning yet.
