Wastrels have returned after six years with a double single that feels both powerful and deeply moving “Bell Jar / Devil Built a Home Where You Once Prayed”. The Minneapolis shoegaze/psychedelia group has been through a lot since their last release, and these songs carry that weight in a way that feels intentional and beautifully crafted.
“Bell Jar” opens with dreamy guitars and an atmosphere that almost feels suspended in the air. The vocals float in and out, giving the track a haunting quality that lingers long after it’s over. It’s one of those songs where every detail feels balanced with guitars, drums, and vocals all working together in an intimate space. The production and mixing are spot on and making it a perfect entry back into the band’s world.
Then comes “Devil Built a Home Where You Once Prayed”, a darker and heavier piece that pushes you into another mood entirely. The instrumentation here is layered and intense, with guitars and drums driving it forward. The vocals carry an urgency that makes the track hit even harder. It’s the kind of song that feels endless in the best way, you don’t really want it to stop.
What stands out most about Wastrels is the care they put into their music. These aren’t quick tracks thrown together, they’re songs that feel lived-in, polished and full of creativity. We love how both songs show different sides of the band while still sounding completely their own. This release makes us excited for what’s coming next.
