Velvet Sun – Wait

Velvet Sun is back after years of silence and their new single “Wait” proves they still have something special to offer. Led by Scott Weinkle on vocals, guitars, and drums, alongside Eric Gould on keyboards and Marcel Salas on bass, the band blends nostalgic indie rock with dreamy shoegaze elements.

From the start, the song pulls you in with jangly guitars, smooth basslines, and layered keyboards that create a distinctive atmosphere. The song is polished and well-produced, making every instrument stand out. Scott’s vocals add an emotional depth that fits perfectly with the song’s themes of longing and fate. The lyrics feel personal yet universal, making it easy to connect with.

The track also comes with an AI-crafted video that enhances the experience, visually matching the song’s dreamy and slightly melancholic vibe. With great mixing and a well-crafted arrangement, “Wait” is a track that invites multiple listens.

We love how this song feels like a throwback to classic indie rock while still sounding fresh. It’s the kind of track that lingers in your mind long after it ends. Velvet Sun’s return is a welcome one and we can’t wait to hear more.

ABOUT THE BAND:

Velvet Sun is an American indie-rock band born in New York City and based in South Florida, weaving angelic yet gritty guitar tones with post-punk rhythms and shoegaze textures. Their sound is a dreamy collision of beauty and raw power, reminiscent of 90s Britpop icons like Suede and Slowdive. Listening to Velvet Sun evokes a sense of longing and nostalgia, pulling listeners into a world where mystery and emotion intertwine.

The band’s journey began with Dreamhome (2001), a bold 12-song exploration of layered soundscapes and avant-rock influences. Tracks like “Like It That Way” showcased their ability to merge British and American rock aesthetics.

Over the years, they’ve drawn comparisons to Interpol, The Pixies, and My Bloody Valentine, creating a sound that balances cosmic beauty with brooding intensity.

Their latest release, Empire, is a 4-song EP that marks a new chapter for the band. Co-produced and engineered by Ferny Coipel at Shack North Studio, the EP blends ethereal atmospheres with driving rhythms. The title track shifts between swirling psychedelia and staccato basslines, while “Wait” delivers jangly guitars and wistful vocals that explore fateful romantic longing. “Star” pays homage to the glam and arena rock of the 70s with Thin Lizzy-inspired harmonies, and “Wonder” dives into shoegaze depths with lush, distorted guitar tones.

Scott Weinkle leads the band on vocals, guitars, and drums, joined by longtime collaborator Eric Gould on keyboards and Marcel Salas on bass.
