ABOUT THE ARTIST:

The KYD is a rapper from Chatham, Ontario, Canada and currently based in London, Ontario. He started getting into rapping initially in high school after a friend recommended they try freestyling one rainy day when they couldn’t go out skating. Writing and recording raps then turned into a regular thing to do for fun on weekends with a group of friends. Upon hearing albums like Nas’s Illmatic and others from the Golden Era of the ‘80s and ‘90s, this eventually would blossom into an obsession with the culture that has led to where The KYD is now. Inspired by artists like Nas, AZ, Eminem, Kool G Rap, Big Pun, and Black Thought, The KYD’s music gravitates more to the styles of older hip-hop that focus more on the MC’s craft than much of mainstream music does at the moment. With that said, he strives to carry on the tradition of the Golden Era while presenting it in ways that can resonate with both hip-hop heads and the younger generation. In 2022, The KYD plans on dropping a lot of music and expanding his sound and reach. His joint album with fellow Canadian rapper Pats, “PK ALL DAY,’ dropped April 13th, and is currently available to stream now. Most recently, he’s dropped the single “Back To The Essence” in collaboration with producer A Major. At the moment, The KYD is also already working on his follow-up to PK ALL DAY, which will be his first full-length solo project. It is expected to drop later this year.
