THE STORY BEHIND THIS EP:
[Staten Island, NY] – Sergio Napoletano wrote the 5-track EP over the course of the last two years spent in some lockdowns and remote lifestyles where he kept his iPad and microphone at the ready. While recording ideas and layering sounds to go along with the feelings of how things used to be, it was time for Sergio to reflect on what once was….and what things may become. Memory Aisle EP was released on June 10th, 2022.
“Memory Aisle” comes from an idea that we can revisit the memories from our past as if we’re strolling through the aisles of a supermarket (or maybe an IKEA for some.)” – Sergio Napoletano.
The songs were first drafted on an iPad and layered with some acoustic guitar, vocals and keys. The next step was to track AJ Pantaleo’s drums at his home (Kings Studio) basement. Recording engineer Joe Pecora brought his mobile set up for the drums before taking the whole project back to Red Room Studio to track the rest of the EP (bass, vocals and more guitars.) Since this process proved to be successful, a full-length album is in the works, adding to the current 5-track EP.
“Downtown” Video:
Sergio Napoletano just completed a new video for the track “Downtown” on the “Memory Aisle EP,” and it is really worth checking out.
WHAT THE ARTIST SAYS ABOUT “DOWNTOWN”:
“Lyrics for this song evolved into a sort of dream catcher anthem. I was thinking and writing lyrics for the album and the words for this song came about in the middle of the process and I realized how much hope plays a big part. The idea that many people can hear what you say in your mind through music is not to be taken for granted. I wanted to be truthful and thought that taking a ride on the ferry to downtown Manhattan is a great analogy for trying to make it, not just in music but in life. From the hopes we have along the way and the trips we take to the places we want to be to where all these paths cross and intertwine, it’s all just as much a part of the whole as the destination. A journey has to start somewhere and it’s always downtown.” Sergio Napoletano.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
After years spent as a guitarist for some of the most notable acts to come out of Staten Island’s rich and diverse local music scene (Paul & the Tall Trees, Eamon) as well as becoming a fixture at various acoustic showcases, singer-songwriter Sergio Napoletano has found his stride… and his bandmates. With an enormous support group of musicians/friends including AJ Pantaleo, drummer of The Jazztronauts (and who can also be heard on records with Baked and Bueno), the band succeeds in not just playing songs but creating the atmosphere in which they dwell. Adding to the sonic landscape on past recordings (Go On – EP 2016) is Will Schalda on piano/keys (Swivs / Billy Swivs) and Paul Schalda on guitar and backup vocals, bringing instant chemistry from previous projects together (Paul & the Tall Trees).
As a live act, the band can go from light and airy to gritty and tight, sometimes trading in their sweet polished sound for a more clunky indie-rock vibe which often demonstrates the real strength of their music: concise, well-written songs and undeniable musical chemistry… in the tradition of the great American songwriters… with the universal appeal of straight rock and roll.
