ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Sam Himself New York’s leading Fondue Western™ baritone and Switzerland’s reigning “King of Tears” (RTS) – shares Mr. Rocknroll, his latest collaboration with producer Daniel Schlett (Iggy Pop, The War On Drugs) and mastering engineer Greg Calbi (Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie), ahead of his second album, Never Let Me Go, due 1/27 via Sony.
The two-time Swiss Music Award nominee’s new single features drummer Chris Egan (Blood Orange; Solange) and bass player Josh Werner (Ghostface Killah; Lee “Scratch” Perry).
In support of his upcoming LP, Sam Himself confirmed the first leg of his EU tour in early 2023, incl. stops in Berlin, Hamburg, Vienna and Zurich (more dates to follow).
Two years ago, the onset of the pandemic left the “Swiss-born, Gotham-bred” (SPIN) songwriter and performer Sam Koechlin stranded on tour in Europe, unable to return to New York City, his chosen home of the past decade. Exile proved to be inspiring, however, and in 2021, Sam released his debut LP Power Ballads, a largely home-recorded yet “well-crafted set of atmospheric post-punk” (KEXP), to international acclaim.
His EP Slow Drugs, featuring vocalists Denitia and TEEN, as well as drummer Parker Kindred (Jeff Buckley; Elliott Smith) under the direction of Sam Himself’s ‘Second Beatle’ Daniel Schlett, had previously earned the National Broadcasting Network’s prestigious ‘Best Talent Award.’ As featured by SPIN, KEXP, KCRW, Under The Radar, The Wild Honey Pie Buzzsession and many more.
