Kevin DeHart (drums), Steve Dicks (bass), Roger Hughes (guitar/vocals), David Lane (lap steel), and Michael Starks (vocals/guitar/keyboards) return with their latest single, “In the Morning,” featuring the harmonious guest vocals of Brenda Mason.
If you haven’t heard of them they go by the name Quaint Delusions and they have an impressive discography of quality songs.
The track unfolds with a breezy, carefree ambiance, evoking a sense of untroubled bliss. Yet, a closer listen to the lyrics reveals a more complex narrative. Starks poignantly sings, “Feeling just a little bit old / It’s like that in the morning / Light might shine a little more cold / It’s like that in the morning / It can be like that in the morning / It’s like that every day.”
This juxtaposition of light-hearted melody and introspective lyrics creates a compelling contrast. The vocal harmonies are a standout, resonating with a lush fullness that enhances the emotional depth of the track. The interplay of jangly and fluid guitars, anchored by a steady bassline, crafts a sonically cohesive and well-rounded song.
Not without a touch of humor, the line about being a clone is a delightful, tongue-in-cheek moment. “In the Morning” is yet another impressive addition to the band’s repertoire, so be sure to explore their other recent releases as well.
