WHAT THE ARTIST SAYS ABOUT THIS SONG:
“The Weight about the hangover over of emotions that linger around after a relationship ends… a basic processing of the finality of it all.
It was written a few years ago on an acoustic guitar and was pieced together from a little chord progression that sat comfortably with the first few lyrics.
It started life as a wholesome, acoustic heavy track but we ended up stripping it back and dirtying up the bass to give it more bite. The final track is fairly sparse and relies on the groove of the drums and bass to carry the story home.”
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Nixon Tate, the musical alias of poet-singer-songwriter Nick Taylor, delivers soulful and unashamedly regional vocals on a bed of organically crafted and infinitely layered instrumentation. His wistful and captivating sound has seen this Staffordshire music scene veteran carve out his musical niche as if it were a fine art form, whittling down hazy soundscapes, alluring harmonies and driving bass lines for heart-wrenching results.
Nixon Tate is refreshingly familiar yet difficult to pin down, with an original fusion of singer-songwriter sensibilities, alternative rock and delectable pop. Nick’s words come across as if they have been passed down from generation to generation. Yet, as the layers are peeled back, it’s difficult to believe that this is one man’s solo craft- laced with metaphors and beautifully candid. Only the Nixon Tate sound can make you dance and weep at the same time.
Nick has been putting pen to paper for as long as he can remember, despite often taking a backseat in the writing process with previous bands. Their loss is our gain – his innate need to create music and commitment to the cause has proven fruitful, with his inevitable solo project being a long time in the making.
