This might be our favorite song from this year. Beautiful and talented singer-songwriter Lisa Michelle Anderson grabbed our attention with her beautiful single, “JOY CALLIN’,” and we are super excited to share it with you.
The minute we heard Lisa’s voice we fell in love with it and couldn’t get it out of our heads. She has one of the catchiest and most beautiful voices we’ve ever heard and her performance on this record is on another level. The sound is catchy, and the lyrics are memorable and beautifully written and mesh perfectly with the vocal melodies. Lisa’s voice and the production of this song are complementary which allows the melodies to sparkle. The energy of this song is beautiful and the quality is interesting. Lisa Michelle Anderson is a talented artist and her music is different and deserves more attention.

Lisa’s music has been described as “fresh linen and well-worn denim occasionally splashed with whiskey, beer, and hot sauce.” And we’re not going to argue with that.
She’s had the pleasure to play and record with Matt Cameron (Pearl Jam, Sound Garden), Adam Levy (Turn Turn Turn), Johnny Irion (Arlo Guthrie, Robert DeLeo), Cindy Lawson (The Clams), Paul Hiraga (Down Pilot), Lori Wray, Mark Engebretson (The Silverteens) and Sky Smeed.
Anderson was voted best Singer-Songwriter by the Minnesota Music Academy, haing honed her skills in the Minneapolis scene playing at iconic clubs First Avenue/7th St. Entry, The Uptown, The 400 Club and the Fine Line Music Cafe. Over the years, she’s opened for Warren Zevon, The Jayhawks, Marty Willson-Piper, Marianne Faithfull, Peter Case, Lowen & Navarro and a host of other greats.
In 2020 and 2022 Lisa released two EP’s, Quincy St. and Waters of Blue, along with her single “Key to the Door” that was released by Aldora Britain Records (Rothley, UK). Her new single “Joy Callin'” was recorded and produced by singer-songwriter Johnny Irion (Arlo Guthrie, Mike Stinson) and Mixed by the legendary Paul Kolderie (Radiohead, Pixies, Dinosaur Jr.).
“I wanted my song to reflect what most of the world is thinking. Where is Joy? What is Joy? And who is Joy?” says Anderson. “This is not a religious song but a country/folk/bluegrass song that tells a story of someone named Joy leaving a message on an answering machine.”
Anderson is currently putting the finishing touches on a new LP with Irion, set to be released later this year.
