ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Janna Badalian is a classically trained jazz singer and songwriter based in Raleigh, NC. She writes and performs original songs in English and her native Russian.
Born and raised in a university town in Siberia, in a family of Soviet scientists, Janna pursued music from an early age. While living and working in Moscow for many years, Janna got to perform with several local acoustic projects and jazz ensembles and to participate in many music festivals. After moving to North Carolina in 2007, she took up jazz songwriting and performing occasionally at local jazz venues.
Janna was trained in classical guitar at the Novosibirsk music college, in jazz vocals at the Moscow College of Improvised Music (MCIM), and in classical singing at the Katherine Posner vocal studio in Raleigh.
Her repertoire includes a variety of original songs in Russian and English, jazz and blues covers, Brazilian bossa-nova, French, Italian, and Neapolitan songs, as well as occasional opera arias self-accompanied on guitar (because why not?)
