Ivan Beecroft, a talented songwriter and musician hailing from Melbourne, Australia, has recently captivated audiences with his latest single, “Carousel.” This track not only showcases Beecroft’s musical prowess but also delves into the tumultuous emotions of a community grappling with challenging times.
From the moment “Carousel” begins, listeners are enveloped in a sonic journey filled with impressive guitar work and powerful drumming. Beecroft’s rich vocals soar above the instrumentation, delivering a performance that is nothing short of captivating. The production quality is top-notch, lending a polished and professional sound to the entire piece.
What sets “Carousel” apart is its originality and depth. Beecroft drew inspiration from his experiences during Melbourne’s extended lockdowns, citing George Orwell’s “1984” as a key influence. The songwriting process itself was fueled by frustration and anger, stemming from Orwellian-like slogans and government actions that seemed to encroach on personal freedoms. Beecroft’s lyrics reflect this defiance and rage, with lines like “It’s not too late to stop this living hell” resonating deeply with listeners.
Interestingly, “Carousel” possesses a prophetic quality, foreshadowing events that unfolded long after its recording. Beecroft recalls specific incidents during the lockdown period, underscoring the song’s relevance and emotional weight.
In addition to his solo work, Beecroft has recently formed a band called “Gaslight.” Fans will have the opportunity to experience the electrifying energy of “Carousel” live, as the band plans to perform the song at their launch in Melbourne after March this year.
Overall, “Carousel” is a poignant reminder of the power of music to capture the zeitgeist of a moment in time. With its compelling instrumentation, evocative lyrics, and emotional depth, Ivan Beecroft’s latest single is sure to leave a lasting impression on listeners everywhere.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Ivan Beecroft songwriter/musician from Melbourne, Australia
In the last two decades Ivan Beecroft has been a major contributor in Melbourne’s thriving underground music scene. He was very fortunate to be around when grunge took off in the 90s and when St Kilda’s underground music scene was at its peak, with artists such as Tex Perkins (Beasts of Bourbon,The Cruel Sea), Paul Hester (Crowded House), Sean Kelly (The Models) and many more having commercial success at the time. Living around so many of Melbourne’s creative musicians at that particular time left a lasting impression on Ivan as an artist and profoundly changed his approach to writing music. The personal insight into Melbourne’s underground scene obtained by associating with artists such as Sean Kelly has greatly inspired Ivan’s songwriting. Perspective gained from reading the works of John Steinbeck, George Orwell and Aldous Huxley, combined with the experience of feeling disenfranchised in his working life and identifying with being an outsider in the music industry, allow Ivan to imaginatively express the mood of the times.
