Interview With YERI

Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?

A: My name is Yeri, also known as Afrochill Papi. My sound is a fusion of worlds — Afrobeats, Alte, Pop, Afro-Swing, Afro-Fusion — all blended into one smooth, soulful frequency. Growing up, I’d sit and watch my older brother rap, jumping into rap battles like it was nothing. Seeing him command a crowd with just his words was my first real inspiration. That lit the spark that became Afrochill.

Q: How are you planning on growing your fan base and sharing your music with the world? What message do you have for anyone about to discover “Yeri”?

A: I’m building the Afrochill movement one vibe at a time, and one day I want it to stand right at the center of mainstream music. I’m a storyteller before anything — there are things I’ll never say in conversation that flow out of me effortlessly in my music. If I’m not okay, you’ll hear it. Music has carried me through my darkest moments, and I don’t take that gift lightly.

To anyone discovering me for the first time: listen with your heart, not just your ears. Feel the rhythm, catch the message, and welcome to the Afrochill experience.

Q: Who is the most inspiring artist for you right now? And where do you find inspiration for making music?

A: Burna Boy inspires me the most — I feel like our journeys share a rhythm. My inspiration comes from life itself: my environment, my emotions, the things I’ve lived through. Losing my mum and sister within four months changed me forever. Those scars fuel my creativity; they remind me why I’m here and why my voice matters.

Q: Can you tell us about the story or message behind the song, “In a Maybach”?

A: Funny enough, I had zero plans of recording “In a Maybach.” I pulled up to Main One Studio for something totally different, and Nick — one of the engineers I always work with — told me he had an Afrobeat I should hear. It was the first time I recorded on one of his productions, and the chemistry was instant. He pressed play, I started freestyling, and boom — “In a Maybach” was born. Pure vibe, pure flow.

Q: How would you describe your sound in one word for potential listeners?

A: Groovy.

Q: Did you face any challenges while writing or recording “In a Maybach”?

A: Not at all — the whole process was smooth, organic, and groovy from start to finish

Q: What is the message of your music? And what are your goals as an artist?

A: My message is simple: be yourself boldly. Take your time to learn who you are, stand on it, and never lose sight of your essence. As for my goals, I want to take Afrochill global. I want to keep evolving, keep breaking boundaries, and stay consistent in the journey.

Q: Who is your dream artist to collaborate with? (dead or alive)

A: I look up to so many greats, but if I had to choose one… Burna Boy. That’s my GOAT.

Q: What is your advice for people interested in pursuing music as a career or for those trying to enter the industry?

A: Stay true to your identity. Focus on your grind, even when it feels like nothing is moving. Every journey has quiet seasons — but your moment always comes if you stay ready.

Q: If you could go back in time and give a younger you some words of wisdom, what would they be?

A: “Don’t give up. Lock in, trust your process, and keep pushing even when the pace feels slow. The consistency you build today becomes the success you’ll celebrate tomorrow.”
