Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?
A: [Davide]: We are three guys from Pavullo Nel Frignano, a small and peaceful town in northern Italy. From a young age, we’ve always been connected to music in one way or another. In Emilia Romagna, it’s hard to avoid it. These lands have produced some of Italy’s greatest musicians who’ve also made an international mark, like Lucio Dalla, Pavarotti, Ligabue, Cesare Cremonini, and Vasco Rossi.
My father played keyboards in a rock band, and before him, my grandfather had a traditional music group where he played the accordion. That was my starting point, and my influences later took shape through MTV, Guitar Hero, and eventually YouTube.
Q: How are you planning on growing your fan base and sharing your music with the world? What message do you have for anyone who is about to discover “Wanderlast”?
A: We’ve started releasing new music and are updating our live set. The next step is to play as many shows as possible. For those who want to explore us online, besides the music videos on YouTube, we’re developing a concept story that began in 2020, following the band’s adventures in a sci-fi narrative. We highly recommend checking out the trailer for our EP “Are You Ready for Your Future?”, which we entirely shot and edited in 3D and with green screens.

Q: Who is the most inspiring artist for you right now? And where do you find inspiration for making music?
A: We’re following the footsteps of various English artists, particularly the more alternative scene (Husky Loops, Everyone You Know, Noisy,…), which aligns more with our vision and our need to be independent. We also believe they’re truly innovative and ahead of the curve.
We find inspiration in almost anything. We have a lot to say, so it comes quite naturally—from international news, politics, environmental issues, and war to the adventures shared with friends over a bottle of Lambrusco (a classic Italian wine) accompanied by bread and salame.
Q: Can you tell us about the story or message behind the song, “Hysteresis”?
A: The song is a mantra for anyone pursuing something in their life. It’s about feeling the blood boiling in your veins, finding the strength to do things no one else would, and working hard without looking back—often at the risk of neglecting yourself. It’s about the awareness of losing parts of yourself to chase a vision. Who will we be at the end of the journey? Will we still be able to recognize ourselves?
Q: How would you describe your sound in one word for potential listeners?
A: Kaleidoscopic. It may sound strange, but we believe each of our songs has its own unique shade that contributes to creating a shared, singular imagery.
Q: Did you face any challenges while writing or recording “Hysteresis”?
A: Definitely. “Hysteresis” was one of the last songs we wrote when we decided to work on the new EP. It has a different sound from our usual style—more rock, more raw, but with a unique energy. At first, it didn’t sound much like Wanderlast; we worked on it extensively, going through many versions. We rewrote verses, discarded choruses, and adjusted the tempo. We had to change a bit ourselves to approach something that initially didn’t resemble us at all. We let ourselves be carried by the sound waves, and in the end, it felt as if a part of that energy entered us, creating something new. Different. Now, all of this is Wanderlast.
Q: What is the message of your music? And what are your goals as an artist?
A: Our messages vary. In “Hysteresis,” for example, we talk about pursuing a passion. In upcoming songs, there will be themes of love, reflections on war and politics, and themes of friendship. We like to be open, to motivate people to believe in their dreams, to help them have fun in their nights out, and also to leave room for more sensitive topics.
Our immediate goal is to turn this into a career, to organize a headlining tour, and to invest even more in all our projects.
Q: Who is your dream artist to collaborate with? (dead or alive)
A: [Francesco]: There are many names from the past we’d love to collaborate with, but for now, we’ll let them rest in peace (laughs). On the current scene, there are so many different influences, but it would be a dream to collaborate with bands like Nothing But Thieves, Twenty One Pilots, and Paolo Nutini!
Q: What is your advice for people interested in pursuing music as a career or for those trying to enter the industry?
A: Plan, write, play, have fun, repeat. That’s the best advice we can give. Right now, all three of us have jobs, but we’re trying to change things. It’s a tough journey, but if you really love what you do, it doesn’t feel like a burden.
Q: If you could go back in time and give a younger you some words of wisdom, what would they be?
A: You’ll discover one day that your happiness depends on you and that failing is probably the part of the game that keeps us alive.
