Interview With The Bad Actors

Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?

A: I grew up in a house with lots of music. My parents are musicians so that definitely had an impact. I am thankful to have had access to a wide range of artists from Mary J. Blige to Nirvana to Cypress Hill etc. In secondary school, I wanted to start a band but no one played drums. So, I told Jay (already a mate) that he had to learn to play. Three months later he emerged from the attic and we were jamming Oasis and Arctic Monkeys songs. Fast-forward a dozen years and here we are.

Q: How are you planning on growing your fan base and sharing your music with the world? What message do you have for anyone who is about to discover “The Bad Actors”?

A: Anyone who knows The Bad Actors has probably seen videos of two dudes in orange suits playing all around Sheffield. So there’s gonna be more of that, more gigs, more singles and when the world is full of enough orange lovers, an album.

Q: Who is the most inspiring artist for you right now? And where do you find inspiration for making music?

A: We’ve both always gravitated to music with some groove so artists like RHCP, James Brown, Living Colour spring to mind. But we’re both indie rockers at heart so The Hives, The Police, The Strokes come to mind. I also want to say Bill Withers, I find it very inspiring that he had already been around the block and then decided he was gonna give music a shot and made a name for himself when at that point he probably wasn’t who the industry was looking for.

Q: Can you tell us about the story or message behind the song, “Too Old.”?

A: Its about that feeling we all get one day after a heavy night, where we look back on the nights activities regretfully and think, ‘I’m getting too old for this!’

Q: How would you describe your sound in one word for potential listeners?

A: Orange

Q: Did you face any challenges while writing or recording “Too Old”?

A: The song came together quite quickly thankfully. We managed to write, arrange and record it all in a few days. Which makes a nice change.

Q: What is the message of your music? And what are your goals as an artist?

A: There is too much darkness in the world. Not that we’re trying to ignore it, just deal with some of the challenges in life with a bit of humour. We’re trying to brighten your day! We want to take this to as many people as possible, so that whenever someone is scrolling through their feed, listening to our tunes or at a gig, they hear our music, see the orange suits and have a smile.

Q: Who is your dream artist to collaborate with? (dead or alive)

A: The Hives

Q: What is your advice for people interested in pursuing music as a career or for those trying to enter the industry?

A: Ask me in three years… Nah haha I would say find the thing that you do and do it a lot.

Q: If you could go back in time and give a younger you some words of wisdom, what would they be?

A: Take social media more seriously, its crazy the oppurtinties that can come from it.
