Q: Hey, can you tell us a bit about where you come from, and what made you want to start a career in music?
A: I was born and raised in Louisiana. I’m very proud of my Cajun heritage and my Louisiana roots definitely show in the music I write. I’m currently located in Denver, CO and honestly Colorado and the people that live there have been so good to me that it truly feels like home. When I was in 8th grade I got my first guitar and instantly fell in love with making music. Wasn’t long after that when I started having daydreams of starting a band and playing on big stages and the dreams stayed alive since then.
Q: Did you have any formal training, or are you self- taught?
A: I’ve never had any formal training. Everything I know how to do was either taught to me by musicians I’ve played with or just hours and hours practicing in my room.
Q: Who were your first and strongest musical influences?
A: Fats Domino forever. My first, and still to this day, major musical influences come from all the great Louisiana musicians of the past (Fats, Louie Armstrong, Lee Dorsey, Etc etc) but nothing has ever stood out or struck a chord with me quite like Fats does.
Q: You have just released your new album ‘Never Needed Me’. Is there a story behind it
A: Yes and no. The album itself tells a story of falling in and ultimately out of love, however it isn’t about any specific love gained or lost. Just a culmination of songs I’ve written via different emotional states.
Q: Could you describe a specific song on the album that holds a deep personal significance for you?
A: Forgetting It All is really special to me. It’s the story of me and my wife’s first summer together and every time I perform it I get transported back to the overwhelming feelings of happiness I had that whole summer.
Q: What do you feel are the key elements in your music that should resonate with listeners, and how would you personally describe your sound?
A: Our music is raw. It’s all driven by emotion. I feel like what resonates with listeners is exactly that. Whether you just had the best day of your life, or just went through a heartbreak, we have something that can help ya feel what it is you need to. Our sound is a mix of old school New Orleans rhythm and blues with a twist of modern rock n roll. Sprinkle in a lil feeling and a whole lot of dancing and that’s Reveille.
Q: Do you feel that your music is giving you back just as much fulfillment as the amount of work you are putting into it, or are you expecting something more?
A: It’s very easy as an artist in todays world to get caught up with on the next milestone and the next big thing to accomplish, but honestly I’m very proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish so far. That being said, we’re definitely striving to get our music out to as many people as we can, but for now the energy we receive back from audiences at our live shows is more than enough to keep us satisfied.
Q: Could you describe your creative processes? How do usually start, and go about shaping ideas into a completed song?
A: All of my song writing starts with a spark. I wish I could figure out exactly how to make it happen but when it hits me it just hits me ya know. From there I take the idea to the band and we arrange it all together after a lil TLC it becomes a Reveille song.
Q: What has been the most difficult thing you’ve had to endure in your life or music career so far?
A: As far as life goes, it’s hard to pin down one particular moment as the toughest. I’ve been through plenty of hardships, but in the grand scheme of things I feel very blessed to have the life I do today. As far as music goes, honestly the hardest thing is just missing out on time with friends and family do to traveling and playing so many shows.
Q: On the contrary, what would you consider a successful, proud or significant point in your life or music career so far?
A: This past fall we played our biggest music festival to date, Telluride Blues n Brews, and being on a big stage like that playing for such a large crowd felt so good. We’ve all put in so much hard work into this project and finally starting to see it catch some traction has been so rewarding. Truly appreciative for the love and support we’ve received so far.
