Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?
A: my names MOBI1 it means may our blessings inspire 1. I’m from west London brentford. My family listened to a lot of Motown music growing up so very American influences. Once I hit my teens I was really into bands and electronic sounds. Hounslow not the easiest borough to grow up on but I don’t think it’s the hardest either. My parents have always had a very hardworking mentality which has been drilled in from young so I’ve always know whatever I’m doing i need to stay on top of it. I loved football young and in general played team sports growing up.
Q: How are you planning on growing your fan base and sharing your music with the world? What message do you have for anyone who is about to discover “Mobi1”?
A: to be honest, I’m not too focused on growing a fan base. For me music is my therapy, it keeps me in a safe headspace and focussed on something enough to build more love and passion for it. If I can help people along the way in any form then I’m grateful I can. For anyone who’s just finding me now I’d say to Listen first with the intention to find positives from your pain or trauma. Then listen again to vibe through it!
Q: Who is the most inspiring artist for you right now? And where do you find inspiration for making music?
A: there’s not really one artist I pull inspiration from directly. I have waves of listening to a few artists in consistent rotation and they are probably Kendrick Lamar, glass animals, vampire weekend, the 1975, cench, chase and status and more tbh. Like I said it rotates but those are probably my go too guys for inspiration with my sound and creativity. Finding my inspiration is pretty straightforward for me. I find solace in the community of creatives around me. They all have an individual essence that I feel I can always learn and grown from 🙂
Q: Can you tell us about the story or message behind the Joey Clipstar freestyle?
A: of course. I’m all about vibing through your pain. Here I wanted to highlight no matter what your situation is you can still get out raw energy and channel it positively. I mention topics like my mental health, brands that I like, reference things to do with my past and previous career and and wanted to add some vibey spice too.
Q: How would you describe your sound in one word for potential listeners?
A: Zestful
Q: Did you face any challenges while writing or recording this track?
A: yes, I knew when I heard the beat it was what I wanted to use. I couldn’t exactly figure out how to tackle it. Working in the studio with my engineer VELLY we thought it would be a good idea just to put the headphones on and say whatever I was feeling at that moment. The headspace I was in was a little off as I’d come off a meeting with my lawyer about something to do with my last workplace so I threw that energy into it. Once I had the first couple of lines recorded it just came like clockwork almost.
Q: What is the message of your music? And what are your goals as an artist?
A: vibe through your pain. Whatever it is you’re going through or have been through. There is always a positive and you are stronger each day you survive through it. As an artist I’d like to be able to help people with my sound & creativity. Have fun and enjoy the process whilst recovering and progressing. Heal through my creative outlets and collaborate with others in similar headspace’s.
Q: Who is your dream artist to collaborate with? (dead or alive)
A: easily Lauren hill, staple to music and she was actually my introduction to rap in general.
Q: What is your advice for people interested in pursuing music as a career or for those trying to enter the industry?
A: surround yourself with people who want the same or similar as you. Learn from the losses, be relentless with your consistency and make quicker decisions (not quick ones just quicker). Everything in life is a risk anyway so bet on yourself and back it with your work rate.
Q: If you could go back in time and give a younger you some words of wisdom, what would they be?
A: take life a bit more seriously, save or invest and spend more time with your family.
