Interview With Loudness Wars

Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?

Jay: I remember my dad playing abba/Boney M and some Beatles, but i started to listen to the radio about age 10; listening to the charts and thinking I would love to be in a band and play an instrument. I absorbed a lot of 70’s and 80s music and got into a lot of music at school, listening to Prince, Hendrix etc. I just loved it all.

Richard – My parents listened to a lot of 60s pop and instrumental stuff when I was a kid, along with some Fleetwood Mac and Eric Clapton. Once I got to secondary school though, I definitely leant towards some heavier sounds and got more into classic rock, Guns ‘n’ Roses and Nirvana.

Ian: My Dad was obsessed with music and did whatever he could to let me play including buying a drum kit for me and allowing me to practice in my bedroom for hours creating a racket.

Q: How are you planning on growing your fan base and sharing your music with the world? What message do you have for anyone who is about to discover “Loudness Wars”?

Ian:  we are just going to keep on our current trajectory practicing and trying to finish the album. To anyone about to discover us I say if you like solid drums , played loud over a creative bass line with a decent dusting of melodic but raw guitar riffs and the  voice of a generation, we are here for you and I hope you enjoy.

Richard – The message?  Turn it up!

Q: Who is the most inspiring artist for you right now? And where do you find inspiration for making music?

Jay– Wet Leg !! Sexy and sounds great

Richard:  I’m currently revisiting some of the music that I was into years ago and that I haven’t listened to in a long time. I’m really enjoying some of Beck’s earlier stuff at the minute.

Ian: At the current moment my favourite drummer is  probably  ii from Sleep Token. He’s so incredibly inventive and their  rise from nothing to Download headliners in such a short amount of time is absolutely incredible

Q: Can you tell us about the story or message behind the song, “Battlefield.”?

Jay: When I write, I often reflect on the emotions and relationships that shaped me growing up. Those early experiences—whether joyful, confusing, or painful—still influence how I understand connection and vulnerability. I try to channel that into my music in a way that feels honest and relatable.

Q: How would you describe your sound in one word for potential listeners?

Richard – “Punchy”

Q: Did you face any challenges while writing or recording “Battlefield”?

A: The song came together pretty quickly and naturally. I had a clear vision for the sound—I wanted it to carry some of that raw, gritty energy you hear in Nirvana’s music, and once that direction was set, everything just flowed.

Q: What is the message of your music? And what are your goals as an artist?

Jay: There’s no specific message we’re trying to push—our music comes straight from the heart. It’s about expressing what we feel in the moment. If people connect with it, that’s the most rewarding part. As for goals, we just want more people to discover our sound and give it a listen. Growing our audience organically is what we’re aiming for.

Q: Who is your dream artist to collaborate with? (dead or alive)

Richard

Choosing someone living feels like a bit of a missed opportunity when you can bring someone back from the dead. Hence, I’m going for Hendrix. Imagine what he would make of the effects pedals and other guitar gear available today!

Q: What is your advice for people interested in pursuing music as a career or for those trying to enter the industry?

Jay: We’re still finding our way into the industry, so we wouldn’t say we’ve “made it” yet. Everything we’ve done so far has been self-funded, and it’s been a real learning curve. Our advice? Keep going. Keep creating. Don’t give up, even when it feels like no one’s listening. That’s what we’re doing—staying committed and trusting the process.

Q: If you could go back in time and give a younger you some words of wisdom, what would they be?

Richard -Believe in what you do and don’t let anyone dissuade you from making the music you want to make.
