Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?
A: What’s up, I’m Loosejoxx. Thank you for the opportunity to do this interview. Growing up, I had friends who shared similar interests in music. They were the friends you’d go jam with right after school. We’d spend weekends learning our favorite songs and then perform them for our parents and friends. Fast forward through the years, I met a lot of musicians, explored new genres and found myself using music as a form of therapy. Eventually, making music just became a way of life to me really.
Q: Can you describe the musical style of Loosejoxx in three words?
A: I guess I’d like to think of it as Different, Deep and maybe Euphoric at times.
Q: How do you stay connected with your fans, and what role do they play in shaping your musical journey?
A: Social media, though I’m not always the most active. I can just say I really appreciate anyone that takes the time to check out my work and hope they take something positive from it. I’ve learned not to let lack of support bum me out but also not to let support get to my head. I always stick to the plan and stay tuned in on creating.
Q: You have just released your new album, ‘So Far From Comfort’. Is there a story behind it?
A: The vibe I sat with throughout the album was reflecting on times where I felt comfortable in the past. The comfort was bittersweet though because it was paired with a lot of emotional pain and unhealthy choices. In the present day, I consider myself to be “So Far” from that version of comfort and deal with things in healthier ways. The songs were made from both perspectives.
Q: What is your favorite track from the album and why?
A: Lancer FM probably. I don’t sing much in my work and never have been a huge fan of my voice but that song just felt good.
Q: Can you walk us through the creative process of producing the album, “So Far From Comfort”?
A: I challenged myself to make it in 5 days. Monday through Thursday, I made 2 tracks a day and on Friday, I arranged and mixed them all. Once everything was there, I took maybe 2 weeks away from the album and came back with fresh ears to give the songs a final mix. I’m proud of this album because I set a small goal and followed through with it. I also learned that setting a short deadline cuts out any extra time for overthinking and second guessing.
Q: What has been the most memorable concert or performance for Loosejoxx so far?
A: In my area, it’s been hard finding shows with open slots for music like mine. At least the majority of it… so I haven’t played any shows yet but I can say some of the beats I’ve made in collaboration with other artists have been performed live by them. That’s pretty dope to me. We’ll see what the future holds though, it’s something I’m open to doing.
Q: Reflecting on your body of work, each song holding its unique significance, could you share a particular track that stands out to you personally? What makes that specific tune special, and why does it hold a place of pride in your musical journey?
A: I’d say track 7, Giving Water to the Ocean. The message behind it is something I feel a lot of people can relate to. We live in a world where the internet is flooded with music and art and at times it can feel like we’re just adding a drop of water to an endless ocean. On bad days it might even feel pointless to release your art, but do it anyway.
Q: Exploring the diverse creative processes within the music industry is always fascinating. Could you provide insight into Loosejoxx’s unique approach to crafting music? From the initial spark of an idea to the finished song, how do you navigate the creative journey and bring its musical concepts to life?
A: Overall I like to have a clear head and get rid of distractions before getting started. I want my ideas to have a pure intention and be crafted carefully. I meditate a little bit and free-write with my keyboard until I catch something that could work as a foundation. Once that’s there, I build it up to a full song. In the end, I want to feel satisfied with the energy I put into a track.
Q: As we wrap up our conversation, looking ahead, what aspirations or dreams do you have for Loosejoxx, and what message would you like to share with your fans as they continue to accompany you on this musical journey?
A: Thank you again, it was great talking to you. I’m gonna continue adding to my discography and collaborating with other artists and content creators. Some goals of mine for the future are to have my music featured in movies and video games and to be able to make a living off of music alone. I mean, I wouldn’t mind having my own basketball court in the basement either but we’ll see what’s up. To those who have supported me from the start to those who may have just discovered me, I appreciate you and will be keeping this thing going.
