Q: Hey, can you tell us a bit about where you come from, and what made you want to start a career in music?
A) I’m L. Eskaye—a Toronto artist making music for the ladies. Growing up in Malvern was a formative experience. It’s a neighbourhood bursting with culture, energy, and resilience, but it also came with its challenges. I had to mature pretty quickly. The rich mix of sounds—from soca and reggae to pop and R&B—influenced my style, but more importantly, Malvern taught me to stand strong, trust myself, and push through any doubts.
I knew I wanted to create music from a young age—I wrote my first song when I was seven. Yet, a lack of support and deep insecurities delayed those dreams. Everything shifted after motherhood. Seeing what my body was capable of reshaped my perspective on womanhood. It was a turning point that made me focus on what makes me happy rather than what others expect. The part of me I’d been suppressing finally said, “Enough is enough—you’ve done everything except pursue what you truly want: making music.” I started writing daily, and with every song, my lyrics grew stronger. Now, I create sexy, energetic anthems about self-love and empowerment—music that makes you sing, dance, and own your confidence.
Q: Can you describe your musical style in three words?
A: Sexy, Fun, and Empowering.
Q: How do you stay connected with your fans, and what role do they play in shaping your musical journey?
A: Even though I’m still building my fanbase, staying genuine and connected with every one who supports me is incredibly important to me. Whether it’s through social media, behind-the-scenes content, or personal interactions, my fans have the power to shape my musical journey—they truly feel like family.
Q: You have just released your new single, “Gucci Body”. Is there a story behind it?
A) “Gucci Body” is all about self-love in its purest form. ‘Gucci’ isn’t about luxury brands—it’s a mindset, a reminder to treat yourself with the highest level of love and respect. It’s about feeling your best, knowing your worth, and putting in the work to love yourself inside and out. I was inspired by how I felt listening to Sexy by Rae Sremmurd and Rude Girl by Bantu—both songs radiate confidence in different ways and made me feel unstoppable. I wanted to capture that same energy—an anthem for empowerment, self-love, and feeling yourself. “Gucci Body” is about holding your head high, and stepping into your main character moment.
Q: What is your favourite part of the song and why?
A) My favourite part has to be the final bars: “Gotta put yourself first, girl, you’re the love of your life.” That line sums up the entire message of the song. As a minority female that was fed the delusions of Disney, I wish I had someone tell me “love yourself first, above all else.” Instead I grew up believing beauty was the most important quality of a woman. This line is a powerful reminder to prioritize self-love—and it throws that message back to the listener, making it the perfect close to the track.
Q: Can you walk us through the creative process of producing the single, “Gucci Body”?
A) The process felt so natural—everything just flowed. The lyrics actually came to me in the shower while I was brainstorming ideas about confidence, self-love, and party anthems. Out of nowhere, “only Gucci on my body” popped into my head. The lyrics and melody came together almost simultaneously; I repeated those 12 bars until I could record a voice note, and later that day, I finished the verses in about an hour. I think it came so effortlessly because it reflects how I see confidence—not as something external, but something you carry within you.
Q: What has been the most memorable concert or performance for you so far?
A) I haven’t had that breakthrough live moment yet, but I’m eagerly looking forward to the day when I can step on stage and share my energy with the world. I know that performance will be a milestone I’ll cherish forever.
Q: Could you share how this particular track stands out to you personally? What makes that specific tune special, and why does it hold a place of pride in your musical journey
A) “Gucci Body” is the perfect debut single because it captures a mindset I’ve carried with me most of my life—that you’re indestructible when you embrace self-love and stay true to yourself. Sure, the playful nod to luxury is fun on the surface, but the heart of the song is all about how you treat yourself and your body—a message that’s incredibly important to me. While I have many songs that mean a lot, “Gucci Body” stands out as the moment I realized I couldn’t hide my musical talents any longer. It’s that breakthrough moment, an anthem of empowerment that I’m proud to share with the world, and it will always hold a special place in my journey.
Q: Exploring the diverse creative processes within the music industry is always fascinating. Could you provide insight into your unique approach to crafting music? From the initial spark of an idea to the finished song, how do you navigate the creative journey and bring its musical concepts to life?
A) My creative process is incredibly organic. Sometimes a song writes itself—like “Gucci Body” did. One minute, I’m brainstorming in the shower about confidence and party vibes, and the next, a melody and lyrics burst out. I capture those moments with a quick voice note, then later, everything falls into place. It’s all about trusting the process and letting inspiration flow naturally, which is how I create music that feels honest and real.
Q: As we wrap up our conversation, looking ahead, what aspirations or dreams do you have for yourself, and what message would you like to share with your fans as they continue to accompany you on this musical journey?
A) “Gucci Body” is just the beginning—I have so much more music on the way, and I can’t wait to share it! My biggest goal is to build genuine connections with my fans around the world. For me, success isn’t about numbers; it’s about making a real impact through live performances, interviews, and heartfelt music. I plan to release three singles, followed by an EP, and eventually dive into a full album. I’m really just itching to get into the studio and share more of my art.
