Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?
A: Hi! Yes, thank you so much for having me. My name is J.T. Hiskey and I am a musician from Salt Lake City, Utah. Music has been my everything my entire life. Recently I just got off tour with Mike Sherm and it was such an amazing experience. Was able to perform at the House of Blues in San Diego, Ace of Spades in Sacramento, and even the Brooklyn Bowl in Las Vegas! Can’t wait to hit the road again with my brother D Savage next month in June.
Q: How are you planning on growing your fan base and sharing your music with the world? What message do you have for anyone who is about to discover “J.T. Hiskey”?
A: Honestly, just being myself and continuing to push forward. The touring has been amazing, but also want to make more new music and music videos for people to enjoy. My message is, remember to keep things rad always. We don’t just chase dreams, we also catch them!
Q: Who is the most inspiring artist for you right now? And where do you find inspiration for making music?
A: That is such a great question. Seriously. I would say the most inspiring artist for me at the current moment would have to be Riley Green. He went from building houses, to getting signed, and now he’s one of the biggest artists currently in country music. Super kind human being as well. Other artists would have to be Tucker Wetmore, and even Matt Still. All started from the bottom and are slowly rising every single day. My inspiration comes from many different places. Recently I have been taking my truck up into the mountains and writing new songs. Just something about connecting with nature and overviewing the entire city, keeps me inspired.
Q: Can you tell us about the story or message behind the song, “Beverly Hillz.”?
A: I can! It is kind of a long story, so I won’t explain every detail in length. Afroman and I created this song back in early 2022. We made this song right after we toured together in the beginning of that year. I have personally known him for many many years, and it was bound to happen that we make a song together. It is produced by Gregory Goose, who has made beats for the majority of my songs since the beginning of my music career in high school.
Q: How would you describe your sound in one word for potential listeners?
A: Unique.
Q: Did you face any challenges while writing or recording “Beverly Hillz”?
A: Funny you ask that. In a weird way, yes. So what happened was I already had the song (with my verse already written out and recorded) intended to be collaborated with the artist Dequan. It was originally supposed to be me and him doing the song together. Dequan ended up not doing the song at the time with me, so I ended up getting Afroman on it instead. Gregory Goose remade the beat than the original we had to being with, and the rest was history.
Q: What is the message of your music? And what are your goals as an artist?
A: My message is positivity and that it is okay to be yourself. My goals as an artist is to keep evolving as I keep getting older. I am 27 years old right now, but by the time I am in my 30’s, I want to be singing and playing my guitar as well. Maturing with my music over time.
Q: Who is your dream artist to collaborate with? (dead or alive)
A: Luke Bryan.
Q: What is your advice for people interested in pursuing music as a career or for those trying to enter the industry?
A: I know everyone says this, but never give up. Anything is possible in this world. Stay positive and keep catching dreams!
Q: If you could go back in time and give a younger you some words of wisdom, what would they be?
A: Stop being so hard on yourself. Life teaches us lessons and remember that everything happens for a reason.
