Q: Welcome back, Heye Comfy! It’s fantastic to have you with us again. Since our last conversation, a lot has happened in your musical journey. To kick things off, could you share some highlights or pivotal moments that have shaped your artistic path since our last interview?
A: Thank you for having me again! Recently, I’ve been doing open mics and just going out in public to try and connect with current and new fans. I recently had my first live-interview with PDX Radio, based out in Portland, Oregon. That was pretty cool. It’s nice to know that the music is reaching a whole other coast, being that I’m from CT. I’ve also been trying to do more collabs with various artists in the area, but I haven’t had much success with that; I’ll keep trying though! I’m currently working on some merch designs; I need to stop being so picky but I also want to give my fans a great product/design to wear. I am also going to do my usual giveaway soon. Back-to-school shopping is around the corner and I like to do a VISA gift card giveaway on my Instagram page to help out a family that needs it.
Q: Can you describe the musical style of Heye Comfy in three words?
A: Funky, heartfelt, spontaneous
Q: How do you stay connected with your fans, and what role do they play in shaping your musical journey?
A: I stay connected with my fans through my social media pages and public appearances. I honestly need to do a better job with both aspects. I’m too much of a homebody but I’ve been getting out of my shell slowly. It’s a working process haha. My fans play a huge role in my musical journey. Without them, I would not be able to call myself a professional. They are the reason for my streams, social media views, etc… My fans or supporters I like to say, are very important to me! I appreciate every one that has taken the time to listen to my music and pay attention to my musical journey.
Q: You have just released your new album, ‘Dancing In The Rain’. Is there a story behind it?
A: The album was a tribute to my mother who passed away during the Covid Pandemic. I wanted people to know that even through hard times there’s always a reason to smile, hence the title “dancing in the rain”. With this project, I strayed away from the usual “rapping” that I do and focused more on melodies and singing. This was meant to be a heartfelt album where I let the people dive into my life, my pain, and my emotions. The album starts off with a more uptempo tone and gradually slows and goes into a melancholy vibe.
Q: What is your favorite track from the album and why?
A: I have 2 favorites on the album. One would be “After It”. I like this because it’s fun, it’s catchy, it just makes you want to dance. This is definitely one of the better songs that I have made in my career. My other favorite would have to be “Just A Memory”. This is just a smooth singing track where I let my emotions out. I love the vibe of this song.
Q: Can you walk us through the creative process of producing the album, “Dancing In The Rain”?
A: I actually spent a lot of time working on this album. It was at least a 2 year process. There were so many songs that I recorded but they didn’t make the album. I wanted the album to be a tribute to my mother so a lot of the songs with my usual “vulgar” lyrics were dropped. I knew I wanted the album to have a certain message or emotion to it, but I also didn’t want it to be too depressing. I was originally going to make a 2-part album. This is why the first half of the album starts off hype and uptempo and the second half of the album is more slow and heartfelt.
Q: What has been the most memorable concert or performance for you so far?
A: The most memorable performance for me so far would have to be at Luna Lounge in Norwalk, CT. It is an open mic event for local artists in my area. I went there to try out a new song. I was not expecting a good crowd response but the love that I received during and after the performance was dope! I definitely want to travel to other cities and states to perform.
Q: Reflecting on your body of work, each song holding its unique significance, could you share a particular track that stands out to you personally? What makes that specific tune special, and why does it hold a place of pride in your musical journey?
A: A track that stands out to me would be one of my singles called “Nervous”. This track is very special to me. It might be one of my favorite songs that I ever wrote. I released this song when I was just getting back into music. I was able to be vulnerable on this track and pour my heart out. I always say my lyrics are just a diary and I just so happened to create a very dope song while letting go of my emotions and releasing stress. This is also the first song where I tried to sing. I wasn’t sure what kind of response I would get but I just put it out there and people enjoyed it!
Q: Exploring the diverse creative processes within the music industry is always fascinating. Could you provide insight into Comfy’s unique approach to crafting music? From the initial spark of an idea to the finished song, how do you navigate the creative journey and bring its musical concepts to life?
A: It seems that I’m always thinking of music, melodies, song lyrics, etc. I’ll find myself humming something during the day when then quickly going to the voice note app in my phone to record the melodies or lyrics so I don’t forget them. Often times, I like to put on an instrumental and freestyle to come up with the flow of the song. If I don’t get writers block and everything is just flowing, Some songs take me 10-15 minutes to finish. Some songs take me days or weeks. I like to revisit each song and adjust the lyrics as I see fit. In the past, I noticed I would always want to rush to get a song done. Now I might work on a hook for one beat, once I hit a writers block, I’ll move onto the next song and revisit the previous one later. I started making music as a release and a way to have fun so whenever I feel that I am putting too much pressure on myself to create something, I’ll take a break.
Q: As we wrap up our conversation, looking ahead, what aspirations or dreams do you have for Heye Comfy, and what message would you like to share with your fans as they continue to accompany you on this musical journey?
A: I would like to continue to grow my fan base. One of my biggest dreams is philanthropy and to be able to help people. If music allows me to do so, then that would be great! The message I would like to share with my fans is to never give up. Keep believing in yourself even when it seems like no one else does. Confidence is key and it will get you far! Also be a good person and do great things!
