Q: Can you tell us about yourself and how childhood impacted your musical direction?
A: My name is Hanna Hughes. I am eighteen years old and grew up in a small town in North Georgia. My childhood played an enormous role in shaping my music today. Music was my outlet for all my emotions while growing up, especially when I wasn’t good at expressing them to others. It helped me, and I hope I can help someone through it in return.
Q: How are you planning on growing your fan base and sharing your music with the world? What message do you have for anyone about to discover “Hanna Hughes”?
A: We plan to advertise on all social media platforms so that my music reaches everyone. We also have plans to go on tour after we finish our first album. The message I have for someone about to discover me as an artist is that my music is very diverse and different from other musicians. I’m not afraid to address topics that others find uncomfortable to talk about in their music.
Q: Who is the most inspiring artist for you right now? And where do you find inspiration for making music?
A: Currently, Lana Del Rey and Phoebe Bridgers are the most inspiring artists to me. I draw inspiration for my music from genuine struggles and heartfelt emotions that resonate with others.
Q: Can you tell us about the story or message behind the song, “If Love Don’t Bite.”?
A: The song “If Love Don’t Bite” narrates the tale of two individuals who are deeply in love but confront challenges in their relationship. They aspire to have a lasting and affectionate partnership, yet harbor uncertainties about the future and if their love is strong enough to survive.
Q: How would you describe your sound in one word for potential listeners?
A: avant-garde
Q: Did you face any challenges while writing or recording “If Love Don’t Bite”?
A: It was not a struggle at all writing the song, as writing has always been one of my stronger traits. The recording process was indeed a journey. We do all of the recording, mixing, and mastering ourselves in a home studio like many other small musicians. It is a challenge as you have to play a whole lot of roles to make things work. There is a lot of time just going back and forth tweaking small things to try to get the best sound that we can for what we are working with. The upside of all of this however is the fact that I have complete creative control over my music. I think too many people worry about things being too sonically perfect instead of just trying to write good music that resonates. If I can achieve that, then I am more than happy with how the music turns out.
Q: What is the message of your music? And what are your goals as an artist?
A: The essence of my music is to reassure people that they are not alone in their struggles. I aim for my music to serve as a source of understanding and empathy. As an artist, my goal is to articulate the emotions that individuals experience and to promote love and awareness of significant real-life challenges.
Q: Who is your dream artist to collaborate with? (dead or alive)
A: My dream artist to collaborate with would be David Kushner.
Q: What is your advice for people interested in pursuing music as a career or for those trying to enter the industry?
A: My advice to anyone pursuing a music career is to go for it. Do not let others’ opinions hold you back from your dreams. Great artists rise to greatness by following the whispers of their dreams and daring to defy the odds, not by heeding the doubts of others.
Q: If you could go back in time and give a younger you some words of wisdom, what would they be?
A: If I could turn back time and offer my younger self some valuable advice, it would be this: Never let go of your passion for music. Even when things seem tough, remember that they will improve. Follow your joy and never let anyone convince you that you can not achieve your dreams.
