Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?
A: Hi Bored City! I grew up on a ranch and was around a lot of nature, rivers and forests which has been a great inspiration for me
Q: Can you describe the musical style of Diane Arkenstone in three words?
A: Honest, peaceful and universal.
Q: How do you stay connected with your fans, and what role do they play in shaping your musical journey?
A: When not performing live, social media is our connection, and the love they send, and family we have become, inspires me to keep creating music in this world.
Q: You have just released your new album, ‘Dive Into Me’. Is there a story behind it?
A: All songs on the album are autobiographical, not only for me, but for most of us.
Q: What is your favorite track from the album and why?
A: ‘Dive Into Me’ because I recorded it moments after I wrote it, and I was filled with inspiration and did not wish to fix, edit or change a thing so I could keep the raw, human emotion, forever captured in the music.
Q: Can you walk us through the creative process of producing the album, “Dive Into Me”?
A: I write a lot of music on different instruments with alternate tunings, and record and produce here in the studio. These songs each tell a story of love, loss and/or empowerment, which are stories most of us have lived through.
Q: What has been the most memorable concert or performance for Diane Arkenstone so far?
A: When I scored a film and it was shown in a Hollywood theatre, and at the end of the film the audience stood up and applauded when my name appeared in the credits.
Q: Reflecting on your body of work, each song holding its unique significance, could you share a particular track that stands out to you personally? What makes that specific tune special, and why does it hold a place of pride in your musical journey?
A: The song, ‘Beautiful Bones,’ from my album Union Road, is powerful for me. It’s about losing everything in life and just letting go and turning inward to the essence that is you, and discovering how magnificence your own framework, yourself, your soul, has always been.
Q: Exploring the diverse creative processes within the music industry is always fascinating. Could you provide insight into Diane Arkenstone’s unique approach to crafting music? From the initial spark of an idea to the finished song, how do you navigate the creative journey and bring its musical concepts to life?
A: I keep a wide variety of instruments with unusual tunings at hand, and I only have to play one note or a chord and the song will suddenly make itself known. When I sleep, I have incredible dreams of music, songs and symphonies, and have used many of those in albums I release. What’s fabulous is, if I don’t write a song down, it stays in me ‘till I take the time to finish it without ever losing any part of the song.
Q: As we wrap up our conversation, looking ahead, what aspirations or dreams do you have for you, and what message would you like to share with your fans as they continue to accompany you on this musical journey?
A: Right now, and each present moment, is most important, and I hold the vision of love, peace, health and freedom for every one of us. When we have that, we have everything.
