Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?
A: My name is Céline Marie and I’m an electronic music producer/DJ and singer-songwriter based in Austria. My music is experimental and blends various genres and styles. Music has been with me since my childhood, I grew up listening to music of the late 90’s / early 00’s (Pop, HipHop, RnB & many more) and I took my first steps as a singer-songwriter at a young age. In my teenage years, I discovered my love for EDM during its golden era. Both had an impact: My love for Pop, HipHop and RnB built the foundation and EDM shaped my music.

A: Experimental, significant & surprising
Q: How do you stay connected with your fans, and what role do they play in shaping your musical journey?
A: I’m constantly working on my social media presence to stay connected with my community and keep them up to date with the latest news about my music. My community plays an important role and I’m grateful for all their love and support on my journey which keeps me inspired and motivated to create and share more of my music.
Q: You have just released your new album, ‘Basics’. Is there a story behind it?
A: Back in 2021/2022, I started my career as an independent artist/musician and to bring my songs to life, I took my first steps in music production and decided to put my first experiments into my debut album, the basics – That’s why I named it „Basics“.
Q: What is your favorite track from the album and why?
A: That’s hard to answer because every song tells a story and is unique in its own way but if I had to choose one, it would probably be „Luminous“. It’s inspired by EDM and Pop music, fused with Trap elements and I truly love this combination of sounds. The story behind this song has also a special meaning to me – It’s an encouraging song, especially when it comes to leaving a comfort zone and pushing boundaries. A gentle reminder to let your light shine instead of hiding.
Q: Can you walk us through the creative process of producing the album, “Basics”?
A: 2 songs of the album, „Stole My Heart“ and „I Don’t Know“, were first written in my childhood and reworked later. As I already mentioned, I discovered my love for music production back in 2021-2022, when I collected ideas for „Basics” and wrote some new songs for it. My first release was the special song „Basics“, an instrumental piece and the full version of the album’s intro and outro. The single releases „Free“, „Vanity“, „Luminous“, „Feel Loved“ and „Thank You“ but also the other songs of the album (I call them „Hidden Gems), „Moonlight“, „Rollercoaster“, „Karma“ and „Doesn’t Matter“, had a various process. Music is a creative field that lives from inspiration. Sometimes you feel like writing lyrics, especially when you have much to say and sometimes you have nothing to say and feel like finding melodies and crafting beats. After months and years of crafting, recording and editing, reworking and the mixing and mastering process, I can say that it was challenging sometimes, especially when you work alone on an entire album, but it helped me a lot to learn and grow.
Q: What has been the most memorable concert or performance for Céline Marie so far?
A: At the age of 12, I got my own bass guitar and even had the opportunity to play in school band. I will never forget our performance at the graduation which definitely had a big impact on my wish to become an artist/musician.
Q: Reflecting on your body of work, each song holding its unique significance, could you share a particular track that stands out to you personally? What makes that specific tune special, and why does it hold a place of pride in your musical journey?
A: „Free“, the lead single / first single release of the album, is and will always be very close to my heart. It was my first song with vocals and as an introverted person who never dared to sing in front of others, it challenged me a lot to release it. I already released 3 songs before „Free“ but they were instrumental pieces. Not only that it was a challenge for me to share my voice with the world for the first time but also the thought of sharing all these emotions and the story behind „Free“ (which is based on own experiences) got me so nervous that I was thinking about to cancel this release. The lyrics of „Free“ describes exactly what I was going through at this moment but my passion for being a singer was stronger than the fear and so I released it anyway which marks a special moment on my journey.
Q: Exploring the diverse creative processes within the music industry is always fascinating. Could you provide insight into Céline Marie’s unique approach to crafting music? From the initial spark of an idea to the finished song, how do you navigate the creative journey and bring its musical concepts to life?
A: First of all, it starts with the idea, a vision for a song, finding a relatable topic and a meaningful title. As I already mentioned, music is still a creative field that lives from inspiration and can’t be forced under pressure. Usually, ideas come random and I have periods of inspiration. It’s important to hold on and write every idea down – Whether it’s a title, a few lines of lyrics or melodies. After collecting ideas and material, I just start without thinking too much. There is no specific order or right and wrong. Sometimes I craft beats first and add vocals later and sometimes I write lyrics / record vocals first and build the beats around it. Then it comes to the glitter on the top – The mixing and mastering process.
Q: As we wrap up our conversation, looking ahead, what aspirations or dreams do you have for Céline Marie, and what message would you like to share with your fans as they continue to accompany you on this musical journey?
A: My goals are to keep working on my skills as a producer and DJ, looking for venues to perform and finishing some projects / demos that I already started working on during the final touches of my debut album „Basics“. These new songs will be released in 1 or 2 EPs. Last but not least, I’m looking forward to creating connections and expanding my community – Everyone is welcome and I can’t wait to take you all with me on my journey and share more music with you soon !
