Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?
A: First of all, we all come from different countries and have completely different cultural upbringing. Kiko King (lead singer) is from USA, Jaco (bass/guitar/synths and producer) comes from Italy and Sean aka Giotto beatz (drummer) is from Ireland, we also have very different music experiences and influences, which is probably the best element in our music. Kiko’s mom was in the church choir and was also the director for the children’s choir. She made him sing when was very little. She also sang background vocals for Mariah Carey & Luther Vandross at one point. So there was always music involved. Jaco played piano since young age and studied music for years and was influenced by the albums of pink floyd when he was just 12 years old. Sean’s father played guitar and dragged him into music very young, then growing up with grunge music as his biggest influence.
Q: Can you describe the musical style of Bam Bam’s Boogie in three words?
A: New Age Soul
Q: How do you stay connected with your fans, and what role do they play in shaping your musical journey?
A: Even though we hate social media, seems to be very important nowadays to have your music listened and known, so we try our best with it, but playing around and meet people in persons is always the best way.
Q: You have just released your new album, ‘son of a black panther’. Is there a story behind it?
A: Kiko’s father was in the original political / activist group ‘Black Panthers’ out of Oakland, California. He was close friends with Huey P. Newton, Angela Davis, Fred Hampton & Eldridge Cleaver and many more.
Q: What is your favorite track from the album and why?
A: Kiko: I don’t have a favorite because each track provides a different mind state & energy. I enjoy all states.
Jaco: very hard to decide, they are all like my babies, but “boogie” is the one i enjoy the most playing.
Sean: I personally love mescaline and Jaguar due to the rhythms being played but yes each song has its own message and vibe.
Q: Can you walk us through the creative process of producing the album, “son of a black panther”?
A: after recording our first ep, “seance”, we just decided to work on everything we had in mind without choosing a specific direction, sound sound or genre, it was a pure “free spirit” mind process. We decided to put in all our influences and feelings, making every song recognizable as our own style.
Q: What has been the most memorable concert or performance for you so far?
A: Playing for the prisoners in RENNES france prison.
Q: Reflecting on your body of work, each song holding its unique significance, could you share a particular track that stands out to you personally? What makes that specific tune special, and why does it hold a place of pride in your musical journey?
A: Kiko: ‘Seance’, the track is based on not using your mind or thought process. It’s like being possessed. For me, it’s the only way I can function.
Sean: Jaguar. This track brings me to the jungle and early drum n bass vibes and that’s my first love for electronic music.
Jaco: Mescaline, from our first ep, was just one of the many instrumentals i had in my arsenal, i met Kiko that day for the very first time and i played it to him, he wrote the lyrics and recorded on the spot, it was pure maginc and we immediately understood we had to do something together.
Q: Exploring the diverse creative processes within the music industry is always fascinating. Could you provide insight into Bam Bam’s Boogie’s unique approach to crafting music? From the initial spark of an idea to the finished song, how do you navigate the creative journey and bring its musical concepts to life?
A: Jaco makes the music, I stop by, he asks me which instrumental I like and we record right away, sean listen to finished tracks and learns the beat and then elaborate with his own style
Q: As we wrap up our conversation, looking ahead, what aspirations or dreams do you have for Bam Bam’s Boogie, and what message would you like to share with your fans as they continue to accompany you on this musical journey?
A: We would like to play at least 3-4 shows a week. reach as many people as possible, not only for financial reasons but because of the simple fact that we bring new energy with a new genre. We represent freedom and everyone deserves that!
