Interview With Anna Goldsmith

Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?

A: I am a 16 year old singer-songwriter from Toronto, Canada. Currently I have five original songs released, and “Let Love Go” is my most recent. I volunteer with youth-centred groups, I downhill ski, and I love my two dogs. When I was a baby, my Mom and I went to Kinder Music classes for a few years, so my love of music started young! At age 6 I began piano lessons, and at age 9 I started vocal lessons. When I was at the piano lessons, I could hear the vocal classes from another room and I decided to try them myself. I was hooked after my first lesson! Our home always has music playing on the stereo, and I have been exposed to a wide range of genres since I was very young.

Q: How are you planning to grow your fan base and share your music with the world What message do you have for anyone who is about to discover “Anna Goldsmith”?

A: I am growing my fan base through my social media accounts, and saying yes to every opportunity. I perform locally and also at a distance; performing my own music and also cover songs. I perform for many different groups, charity events and also at paid gigs. Anyone about to discover “Anna Goldsmith” should know that my message is about kindness, hope and confidence.

Q: Who is the most inspiring artist for you right now? And where do you find inspiration for making music?

A: Lady Gaga is the most inspiring artist to me because she is bold and fearless, she doesn’t care what anyone says about her, and this makes her performances very special. I love that she supports everyone, especially marginalized groups in society. I get my inspiration for making music from the world around me and from all the people that I meet.

Q: Can you tell us about the story or message behind the new single, “Let Love Go.”

A: “Let Love Go” is about a crush I had, and the anxiety and over-analysis I felt about it. “Should I tell them or not? Would this crush turn into an obsession?” I think it is very relatable, and I want people to know that it’s okay to be yourself, to share your feelings. Everything always happens for a reason and turns out okay in the end.

Q: How would you describe your sound in one word for potential listeners?

A: Energizing

Q: Did you face any challenges while writing or recording “Let Love Go”?

A: On this song, I struggled to come up with the hook, and then it just randomly hit me while I was with all my friends. I sang it to them and they loved it!

Q: What is the message of your music? And what are your goals as an artist?

A: My music spreads messages of kindness, hope and confidence. I really want people to feel good about being themselves, because we are all unique. My goals as an artist are to expand my audience by working hard, and making people feel heard and valued. I ultimately want to headline a stadium world tour!

Q: Who is your dream artist to collaborate with? (dead or alive)

A: I would love nothing more than to collaborate with Miley Cyrus! She has a fearless attitude that I look up to.

Q: What is your advice for people interested in pursuing music as a career or for those trying to enter the industry?

A: Always be yourself, you don’t want to lose who you are because of what you’re doing. It is scary to put yourself out there, but you have to just do it – and take all the opportunities that you can, say yes.

Q: If you could go back in time and give a younger you some words of wisdom, what would they be?

A: Stop caring about other people’s opinions of you, yours is the only one that matters when it comes to your art.
