Gwaed – Iselder

We can’t stop playing “Misery Guests” by alternative rock band Gwaed. But we can’t say that we have tried. In fact, we don’t find its prominence on our office music system to be a problem for us because we don’t want to stop playing it. The song is like a strong return to this band but also like something they’ve been sitting with for a while.

The sound is full right away. Guitars come in wide, slightly hazy, but still heavy enough to carry weight. There’s that alternative rock core, but it leans into something more atmospheric without losing its edge. It doesn’t drift too far.

What stands out most is how everything holds together. The vocals don’t fight the instruments and the instruments don’t sit back either. It’s balanced in a way that lets you take in both at the same time, which isn’t always easy with this kind of sound. The production helps a lot here. It’s clean, but still with character. Not overdone.

The lyrics sits in a darker space. The idea of this song is about depression but it doesn’t try to spell everything out. It’s more about that foggy and distant feeling. Things sound a bit far away, even when they’re loud.

There’s also a lot of energy under it all. Not chaotic, just constant. The band is creative and they know exactly what they want this to be. It’s early, but this already sounds like a solid direction for what’s coming next. We ended up really liking this one. There’s something about the mix of weight and atmosphere that works. It just sits there and that’s enough.

ABOUT THE BAND:

GWAED is an alternative rock band from Gwynedd, North Wales, crafting a sound that blends sweeping atmospherics with raw, emotive intensity. Rooted in the dramatic landscapes of Eryri, the band’s music carries a sense of isolation and beauty in equal measure – fusing reverb-soaked guitars, driving rhythms, and haunting melodies that feel both intimate and expansive.
