Talented singer-songwriter GIYA left us stuck on repeat with her latest song “foggy hearts”. The song presents an emotional message and acts as an ode to lives not lived, and peers who had lost their way. The minute we heard GIYA’s vocals we fell in love with it and couldn’t get it out of our heads! She has one of the purest and most charming voices we’ve ever heard, and this emotional masterpiece shows off all the melodic tones of her stunning voice. The atmosphere of this song is captivating and the lyrics are touching, honest and mesh perfectly with the vocal melodies. The instrumental is beautiful and the production quality is interesting. This song is different, emotional and really deserves to be heard by all people around the world. We hope you love it as much as we do!
WHAT THE ARTIST SAYS ABOUT THIS SONG:
Speaking about the release she says: “I wrote it after one of those moments where you look up, and everyone around you is either drinking themselves to death, or finding some other way to distract themselves. It felt like everyone was a little bit lost. It seems to be a common theme among young people today, and hope for the future sometimes seems like a pointless exercise but for me foggy hearts at its core, though, it’s a hopeful song.”
“The recording process for this song with Scoop Monty, an amazing producer down in Brighton, was such a rewarding one and one of the first times that I have had in the studio where the song almost adopts more of the message through the process. We took a lot of care over it, gave it some real time and love and I hope people can feel that”
GIYA is excited to be announcing her new EP ‘Odd Fish,’ and with ‘foggy hearts’ being the lead single, we think this places the benchmark for the rest of the EP. She says: “It just felt like the right song to introduce the new EP. A gut feeling. It’s a sad song, but it also reminds me of some good times I’ve had with friends over the last few years. There are nostalgic memories attached to it. It’s the first song I wrote after moving to Brighton, so it feels like a fresh start.”
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
GIYA’s music speaks of her surroundings. Born and bred in London, she matches folk against hip-hop, pop against left-field styles, she’s built something profound and honest, a sound that is intimately her own.
Poetic, and all done with a devilish wit, too, she was drawn into the orbit of South London producer Ali Bla Bla. Recording and hanging around his studio, she became firm friends with Hak Baker, later joining him on tour in 2018.
Drawing together some ideas, GIYA’s debut EP ‘Almost Real’ landed in 2020. Precocious, shot through with potential, it’s the sound of an imposing talent finding their feet, while discussing an extremely important message. “The most important thing to me are the lyrics, and what I’m trying to say. That’s always what I’ve been drawn to in music. Being drawn to hip-hop just accelerated my love of words.”
Songwriting that thrives on nuance, GIYA uses music to locate a path towards the truth. Weary of the veil of fabrication on social media, GIYA is passionate about using her music to break that cycle, and give people a brutally honest take on her own life to seek to provide some relief to other people who equally feel the weight of pressure of constant perfection.
It seems like people are listening. With major backing from BBC Introducing and recently playing Glastonbury and 2000 Trees, a flurry of UK dates are on their way. This is only the start for a steadfastly independent artist, tackling the world on her own terms.
