Montana native Josh Schott, known as Mystic Wolf, has unveiled his debut EP, “Healing is a Journey,” via Cafe De Anatolia (CDA Records). This five-track release offers a captivating blend of folk and electronic elements, each composition immersing listeners in a unique sonic experience that lingers long after the music fades.
Schott’s personal journey, marked by periods of profound beauty and stability juxtaposed with darkness and struggle, serves as the backdrop for this EP. Since graduating college, he has embarked on a cyclical path of healing, where moments of darkness have sparked transformative growth.
Reflecting on his journey, Schott shares, “After a particularly dark period in my life while living in Montana, I knew I had to leave.” With a remote job in hand, he seized the opportunity to explore Mexico, Guatemala, Chile, and Brazil, embarking on a deeply transformative healing odyssey. It was during this time that Schott unearthed a latent musical reservoir within himself, a creative wellspring waiting to be tapped into.
“It was as if this musical reservoir was always inside of me, but it just needed the right conditions to be tapped into,” Schott reflects. The people he encountered, the communities he connected with, and the array of ceremonies and therapies he experienced all contributed to unlocking this newfound creative flow.
The EP kicks off with a vibe that feels like watching a sunset in the Middle East desert or the dark sky in Montana nature. It’s the kind of music that makes you feel like you’re traveling through space and time.
“Healing is a Journey” isn’t just a collection of songs; it’s a soundtrack for transformation. The mix of old-school folk melodies and futuristic beats creates a unique sound that speaks to both personal and social change. Whether you’re chilling out to the calming vibes of “Atonement” or getting pumped up by the energetic rhythms of “Rebirth,” each track leaves a lasting impression.
The tracks on “Healing is a Journey” serve as a homage to this transformative process and the individuals who supported Schott along the way. Each composition is infused with the raw energy of personal growth and musical discovery, inviting listeners to embark on their own journey of self-exploration and healing.
In summary, Mystic Wolf’s “Healing is a Journey” EP offers a musical experience that’s both familiar and fresh. It’s the perfect soundtrack for anyone looking to embark on a journey of self-discovery and growth through the power of music.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
The mountains, woods, and fields of northwest Montana (Blackfeet and Salish/Kootenai land) have been home for Josh Schott of Mystic Wolf for most of his life. As a result of a transformational healing journey, he lives as a nomad in Latin America, where he began making music in the mountains on the southern end of the world, in the Andes of Chile (Mapuche land). Hiking and backpacking every corner of his home backyard of Glacier Park and surrounding areas fostered a deep spiritual connection to nature and wildlife. That relationship to nature and the rustic culture of Montana inspires a sound where folk weaves intricately with electronica and multicultural rhythms that produces a sonic landscape ranging from meditative to ecstatic. His music guides you on a journey while massaging your soul.
Having been involved in liberation movements since his teenage years, Mystic Wolf uses music as a vehicle and platform for personal and social transformation by elevating our vibration to a frequency of collective liberation. This frequency requires action, so he partners with Palestine liberation, racial, gender, and economic justice movements and organizations to amplify their message and support their work with the intention to make music with an impact. Mystic Wolf creates a synergistic space for healing, spirituality, liberation work, and music.
