If you’re in the mood for something emotional and honest, Laura Mock’s first EP “home//body” is a must listen. This five track journey is filled with heartfelt lyrics, acoustic melodies, and an emotion that is both personal and relatable. From her classical training and her folk influences, Laura Mock has created a project that will explore what it means to be ‘home’ in a way that will be familiar to many.
The EP starts with “Acadia” a beautiful and touching song that sets the tone for the entire record. The instrumentation is beautiful and Laura’s voice is comforting, inviting the listener into the story of the song. “Landlocked” follows with great acoustic guitar and captivating melodies, and it is here that one can see how her voice works perfectly with minimalist yet powerful instrumentation.
“Ribs” strips everything back even further allowing her voice to be the main focus. The simplicity of this song is its strength, allowing every lyric and note to hit harder. On the other hand, “CTC” picks up the pace with more production and energy and provides a powerful and engaging shift in tone. The EP ends with “Rocky Shore” a folk tune that gives a positive vibe and makes you want to listen to the whole project again.
What makes this EP truly special is its ability to connect on an emotional level. Laura Mock’s lyrics are honest and personal, touching on themes of belonging, self-discovery, and finding solace in the people and places that ground us. The production is polished, yet it never overshadows the heartfelt performances.
We were touched by the journey Mock takes us on. She has a pure and powerful voice and the way she builds up complex emotions in her songs is amazing. “Acadia” and “Ribs” were our favorites, but we think that every song has its own strong points. This EP is a comfort for the spirit and we would suggest it to anyone who enjoys music with depth and feeling. Laura Mock is an artist to watch and we are excited to see what she does next.
