danieljmorrow – The Battle of The Billionaires

Daniel Morrow a British indie singer/songwriter based in New York has released his first post-pandemic single, “The Battle of The Billionaires”. This haunting track, born during an artist residency in Memphis, Tennessee, brings a powerful message to the forefront. Morrow’s anger towards the world’s wealthiest people and how they treat our planet is palpable in every note. His rich voice paired with a creative and well crafted instrumental, creates a dark and unique atmosphere that pulls you in and doesn’t let go.

The lyrics are original and meaningful making you think about the state of our world. The polished production perfectly complements Daniel’s vocal performance, creating a sound that is both captivating and memorable. It’s easy to see why his debut performance of the song in Memphis left the audience taken aback.

For us, “The Battle of The Billionaires” is more than just a song, it’s a call to action. Daniel’s ability to channel his frustration into something so beautifully haunting is impressive. His style is unique and this track will definitely make you a new fan. It’s a song you’ll find yourself listening to on repeat, not just for its sound but for the powerful message it carries 🙂

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Daniel Morrow is a New York-based, British indie singer/songwriter and producer. His work is described as  “highly original music that is satisfying, interesting and engaging” (i). .He performs under the cleverly disguised pseudonym of danieljmorrow. He also performs, writes and produces with a band, under the even more carefully disguised name, The Morrow. Daniel’s work has appeared on Netflix and Amazon shows.

Born and raised in North London, England, he was always happiest visiting recording studios with his dad – a prolific songwriter and producer for mainstream pop artists such as Barry Manilow. But Daniel’s music taste was the polar opposite; so much so that his Dad suggested packaging his first band’s indie rock album with headache pills!

Daniel initially came to Brooklyn, NY from London, England to follow up with RCA about their requests to hear more about his band “co-star”.  But the friendships and experiences Daniel cultivated during his stay in Brooklyn led to his decision to stay in the city. His commitment to no-frills authenticity and sincerity immediately found a State-side audience. Mercury Record’s A & R director, David Gray, told him he found his lyrics “particularly personal and intriguing, a rarity these days.” Eric Beall, VP of A&R at Sony, was excited by the strength of Daniel’s catalog, noting that “the songwriting always keeps me interested.”

The release of his debut solo album UNDERNEATH in 2019 was an autobiography of his relationships and laments since his move from London England to Brooklyn. Musically, it was described as an “accomplished excursion into a myriad of blends of rock and pop stylings” (ii) .Following this release, The Morrow, his band of 10 years, released “Between The Times’ in 2020, a steadfast alternative rock album that still maintained the dark and introspective themes of Daniel’s songwriting.

An artist residency in Memphis, TN in late 2023 allowed him time to finish an array of new material, ranging from dark, introspective indie folk to all out indie rock. But, like many, the pandemic was highly influential to his creativity and for the first time, Daniel began exploring themes of social, environmental and political justice. He was also fortunate to collaborate on productions with Calvin Lauber (boygenius/Paramore//Julien Baker) adding a highly polished finish to what had traditionally been a lo-fi sound.
