Q: Hey, can you tell us a bit about where you come from, and what made you want to start a career in music?
A: Hi! My name is Scharliina. I’m a 22 year old artist, actress and model. I was born in Finland but grew up in Sweden. Music has always been a tool for me to connect to my emotions and the deepest version of myself. I started playing the piano at a young age and instantly fell in love with songwriting. I used to love dancing and singing, and I knew at a very young age that my aspiration was to work with music and share my stories. This level of self expression is very important to me.
Q: Did you have any formal training, or are you self-taught?
A: I went to piano lessons for 6 years. But I am almost completely self taught when it comes to singing, writing music and producing it. I studied musical high school, but exchanged almost all my musical courses because my teachers bullied me.
Q: Who were your first and strongest musical influences?
A: Many local Swedish artists like: Amy diamond and “The ark”. But otherwise I would absolutely say that my strongest influence was: Selena Gomez. I was a huge fan of her growing up- and still am.
Q: You have just released your new single, ‘Maybe’. Is there a story behind it?
A: Yeah. It talks about this inner war you have with your self. You wake up on the battle field every day, battling your own thoughts and emotions. I wrote it whilst finally getting help and recovering from a serious eating disorder. That is why the song carries a lot of hope in it. Maybe is like a powerful pop ballad that carries deep thoughts of “Wonder”. Wondering and questioning yourself, having an optimistic voice that tells you, YOU WILL MAKE IT. Even though we can’t sleep, feel a lot of things-“ the war within me I will win”
Q: Can we expect a new EP or even an album from you in the near future?
A: Yes, that is fully possible. I have many plans in the making. My first four songs that is already out there, are records from my first album. I’m exited to share more music in the near future. So stay tuned.
Q: What do you feel are the key elements in your music that should resonate with listeners, and how would you personally describe your sound?
A: My key elements are honesty, Depth, self development/reflection, hopefulness and self love. My music is like therapy for me, and in the best case scenario it can be that for others to if they resonate with it. I would personally say my sound is very pop, heavy and hopeful. Diving deep into many things, but always finding its way to light.
Q: Do you feel that your music is giving you back just as much fulfillment as the amount of work you are putting into it, or are you expecting something more?
A: yeah, my music gives me so much and I couldn’t be more greatful. My only prayer is that people who might resonate with it also, find it.
Q: Could you describe your creative processes? How do usually start, and go about shaping ideas into a completed song?
A: My creative process is usually very intuitive. The lyrics and melodies just come from somewhere inside of me. Then I produce it into a song. Most of my songs are finished in a very short amount of time.. But sometimes the songs need a time span of polishing it up for the mix and master. Here I am greatful To have found amazing people to ride along.
Q: What has been the most difficult thing you’ve had to endure in your life or music career so far?
A: The stories and traumas I open up in my song “little girl”. That song, was a year long process, and it was truly a process. Alot of healing, panic attacks and life discoveries where made. So mostly my biggest difficulty was and is still overcoming and understanding how much the sexual trauma from my childhood has affected all areas of my life. In little girl I open up about the fact about being raped as a child in the lyrics. Thanks to my music, I am able to work through this and empower myself again. In best case scenario I can also help others who have experienced the same thing alongside my charity: www.littlegirlproject.com
Q: On the contrary, what would you consider a successful, proud or significant point in your life or music career so far?
A: Releasing “little girl”. It made it to number 1 in Finland on its release date and was supported by so many platforms. I finally spoke openly about my past, and it set me free and changed my reality. I was also able to talk about the song, my experience and my charity on one of Finland’s biggest radio channels. This is for sure the most proud I have ever been of myself. The little girl wihtin me who carried so much pain and shame was finally heard
