Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?
A: I am Candy, the singer and guitar player in Pretty Average. I am an artist living in Berlin that focus mainly on music and painting. Together with other three great musicians we develop our music day by day.
Looking back at my childhood, I can say that totally influenced me in the music I do today. My parents were also musicians and were constantly playing rock music at home. I have vague memories of me being a kid and dancing to The Smiths or listening The Velvet Underground.
Q: How are you planning on growing your fan base and sharing your music with the world? What message do you have for anyone who is about to discover “Pretty Average”?
A: Since this is our debut EP, we are taking blind steps on how to promote it. We just try to share it with platforms that believe are interesting and the audience match with our taste. This takes quite research, but I get excited seeing how this beloved project can become something bigger than we expected. As an independent band, we have the privilege to choose who we want to work with and set our career direction without external influences.
Pretty Average’s message for anyone about to discover our band is that we believe to bring a good insight popular rock music again and build a counterculture that despises nowadays narcissism.
Q: Who is the most inspiring artist for you right now? And where do you find inspiration for making music?
A: For the past year we have been obsessed with Bernard Sumner and his music writing with New Order. I have even dreamt of an encounter with him, and he comforted me that one day I would get where he stood as an artist.
I take inspiration of my life and record the moments that feel interesting on my phone. Those moments reflect the relationship I have with my people or to myself, sometimes conveys a discontent feeling sometimes the situation is full of irony and self-indulgent humor. A second read would be taken with the intention of writing simple yet meaningful songs that take inspiration of folk and popular music that talk about grief, love and friendship.
Later, I use those notes to develop songs alongside with Sergi and the whole band to find the right sound and structure. We believe our music is never finished and always leave open the possibility of change.
Q: Can you tell us about the story or message behind the song, “Entwined.”?
A: The song is a metaphor of the relationship I have with my mother and some friend of mine. We carry on the lies that are told among the years, the very cathartic moment when we get rid of this weight on our chests and turn it into something good for ourselves and our people.
Q: How would you describe your sound in one word for potential listeners?
A: exciting
Q: Did you face any challenges while writing or recording “Entwined”?
A: We recorded the song twice, as the second time we met our producer Francisco Parisi that helped up get rid of the elements that made blurry our artist statement.

A: Pretty Average is a band that intends to develop musically to achieve a step forward in the arts and to help establish a musical counter-culture that resists today’s nihilism, a value that has been part of the band’s identity since its beginning.
We want to keep doing music as long as possible.
